Happy irthday Andy - what better way to celebrate than by knowing you have made so many people happy!

It was a brilliant weekend - I'm off to try and find Harriet's site next, because that hlaf hour was true magic. I can't put it any better than Ian - make me deaf now, I've heard heaven!

But can someone tell me the names of all the tunes we played for the Miskin Link side, and at the Scratch Ceilidh, so that I can start work on arrangements for the plumbing?

My ticket is booked for next year!

Actually there was a surprisingly large number of Catters who didn't make it into the photo...including my daughter! Looked everywhere for her too.. DuellingBouzoukis and Moonunit were with two others, none of whom were aware of the photo shoot. Shall we do it again next year, but publicise the time on here beforehand?

Lovely weekend, thank you very nuch Andy and everyone who made it happen.

Lovely to meet so many of you catters too.

Can anyone tell me Graham's surname ( Long gey beard, sang we are all off to Dublin in the green as an English army song). He asked me to pass on his regards to an old friend from York who now lives in Wolverhampton and I forgot his name.

Robbie, I presume you mean Graham Metcalfe.

Sunday's scratch ceilidh tunes...

Wot i can remember when I was there in no particular order were...

Cock o the North
Davy Knick Knack
Uncle Bernard's
Buttered Peas - I think
Dorset 4 Hand Reel
Sweets of May?
Jenny Lind?

There were at least 10 who didn't make the photo. Names escape me, but Mary (Vectis) and Liz (is she a catter?) were MCing at the time.

Happy Birthday Andy.

HI all, Many thanks to Andy and all the team who put on this fantastic festival. Pixie and I had a brilliant time, and not too bad a hangover! I took over 250 images, so I'll have my work cut out in the digital darkroom for a bit, but I'll put the best selection on the Cat as soon as I can. Jack is a very poorly puppy after Mrs Duck fed him the best part of a bottle of Jamersons! And that was after spending the night in the bar after closing time!!

Wassail!!! Chris

Super weekend. A big round of applause for Miskin Man, Avril Betts ( was that really she? ) and all the stewards for all the hard work and organisation that went into it.
Highlight for me was dancing Border morris for the first time. It was great to see the children having fun and being a central part of the Sunday festivities. Jan's van and her helpers did a fantastic job.
Well done all.

T'was a real shame not all the Catters knew about the MudShoot organised by Phot, but perhaps the notice-board wasn't noticed as it was situated on the way to the bar - maybe another time it could be 'in' the bar! I have suggested to Phot that perhaps his digital dark-room could add in some photo CatCut-outs to the main picture. As I recall, he laughed.....

The MudSigning board was well used & the Attendance record of Catters & Associated MudFriends'n'Family reads as follows:

Miskin Man

Little Miskin Man (Toby?)
Scooby Doo
Zany Mouse

MBSLynne & el_punkoid_nouveau & Shady Lady

Hawker was there in spirit & missed!
Gervase & MJ were spotted in a car on Monday, just a bit late I suspect....
Was Tradsinger present? I can identify most other Catters even if I do end up calling them all Honey :-)

Any others missing from the list???

Yes, Tradsinger was there, as was Croc (not on the group photo as she was MC-ing with Vectis at the time)

Gervase and MJ turned up to the survivors session at the Windsor on Monday afternoon, as did Lady Policeman and Bill. And that is an official part of Miskin at Easter, isn't it?

Wow! What a magical weekend. Thank you, thank you, thank you times a million.
And, yes, I am on e-mail Barbara. I gave it to Tom at the last Shammick.
Great to see that people enjoyed the Border stuff. I worked out that over 40 people danced, only 5 of whom were 'Borderers' and most had never morrissed before at all.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE MUSICIANS WHO PLAYED FOR US. You were magnificent - and we couldn't have done it without you.

'Herbaceous Border' hopes to dance at Upton (probably 6pm daily under the Bridge) and various other festivals during the year (as well as Sidmouth where it first began. I'll post details somewhere. And I'll sign onto mudcat properly soon. Don't want to be a guest for ever.

Bugger! Back door again!

Next year, wouldn't it be easier to count the number of people there who AREN'T Mudcatters??

Having mentioned some of the things I did over the weekend, I forgot to say that one of my highlights was seeing Rosanna, Tom and Louise get the trophy. Andy is absolutely right in saying they are our future. They (and of course all the other kids too) make sure that there IS a future, not just for folk music, but for the whole folk ethos. They got the most applause I heard all weekend (and that's saying something!) and they were all so pleased, it nearly made me cry. It was a wonderful introduction to folk festivals for Louise.

Fantastic weekend, gets better every year. Too many highlights to mention them all but the Proud Dad moments and the singing in the Cottage were top of the list. Enjoyed meeting all the old and some new Catters.

Nearly froze in the tent Andy, can you arrange Easter to be a bit later next year please ...

Great Festival Andy - I had a wonderful time - did more singing than I've done at any time since my stroke. The harmonies in the bar were magic - and I don't think it was just "Beer Hearing Aids".

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement and good wishes - and in return, hope that Mick Tems and all the other "Strokey Folkies" manage to progress further in their recoveries.

Perhaps Andy should apply for a grant from the NHS for the theraputic powers of the festival (especially Jude's cuddles), which have definitely made me feel much better.

In reponse to Splott Man's message about the number of musicians at the ceilidh and Buttered Peas – I was playing a familiar Welsh tune of striking similarity called Pwt Ar Y Bys (A Vamp On The Fingers) which the Romany harpers would use for a warm-up exercise. Perhaps the story revolves around the age-old sessions, somewhere on the border between England and Wales, where English musicians would hear Welsh harpers playing this tune – and they would spread the tune across Cheshire, Lancashire or all other localities, each carrying a delightful mishearing of the name of the tune. (Mishearings and mistakes are all too common in tradition - (The New Scorpion Band researched a group of musicians in the Napoleonic Wars. The members had as their party piece a tune called The Downfall Of Pears, despite composer M. Becourt's naming of this piece The Downfall Of Paris.) I'm not claiming which came first, because both Welsh and English musicians had a habit of totally ignoring political boundaries. Just compare Pwt Ar Y Bys to Buttered Peas, and draw your own conclusions.

Hi Dave,
Strokey folkies - I really do like that!
I was talking to Chris at Sunday's ceilidh about the important need to form an alternative stroke association which would cater for musicians, and you seem to have hit the nail on the head! The bar-cum-singing room was just too busy for me to have a good talk with you, but with three of us, mountains can be moved. Watch this space...

Seems to have gone quiet!!!!

Right then if you've done with the thank yous. It's my go now.

THANK YOU, all of you - you have generated enthusiasm and interest in an incredible way. I can see no easy way of limiting tickets but long ago went down the path of limited publicity, and with the Miskin Mud Moggies on board, publicity went to the right people.
Special thanks of course to My Guru, for the idea the enthusiasm and the follow through to raise such a grand amount with the raffle. I know that the Rose Road Association were amazed at the response for a cause so far from Wales. But then most of those who come to Miskin are from a fair way away.
Although I am never going to run another one, plans are well started for next year, with guests booked and even ticket reservations already! This is the first chance I've had to write any sort of chat and today I am taking Eyelander away for a few days in Suffolk. On my return I shall attack the website and attempt some sort of report for those that missed it.
Tarra each,

Andy

Hello!
Miskin is such a lovely start to the festval season, (just warm enough not to need a hot water bottle in the van). We had such a great time! I mentioned that I was doing this thing called podcasts, well, I did a podcast for Miskin. It's never going to recapture the feeling or the atmosphere, but I thought that you might want to have a listen, especially Andy might want to listen to the the third track that I chose...
Miskin Podcast

If you're not familiar with podcasting, it's just an mp3 file to listen to a bit like radio, you just need to download it.
If you're familiar with blogging and rss, it's basically an audio blog that you can rss.
