Subject: BS: Cheney to Unemployed: Make $ on ebay! From: Nerd Date: 11 Sep 04 - 10:26 PM Another Gem from the Bush Camp, as reported in Salon: Cheney bids up the flagging economy The critical swing state of Ohio has hemorrhaged hundreds of thousands of jobs with Bush in office, but Vice President Cheney explained to Bush supporters at a campaign stop in Cincinnati on Thursday that the nation's economic picture may be better than naysayers think. He argued that current national employment statistics overlook many people who are making money, such as those selling items on the auction site eBay. "That's a source that didn't even exist 10 years ago," Cheney said, according to the Associated Press. "Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay." Cheney didn't elaborate as to how many of those folks might make a sustainable living doing so. Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards responded that Cheney's comments show how "out of touch" he and President Bush are with the economy. "If we only included bake sales and how much money kids make at lemonade stands," Edwards said in a statement, "this economy would really be cooking.'' |

Subject: RE: BS: Cheney to Unemployed: Make $ on ebay! From: Sorcha Date: 12 Sep 04 - 12:57 AM I have a Harry Truman button. Will that help? Nah, Rabbi, even if they are unemployed they will be drawing down several times (or more) the average salary of the Common Man. Might just have to cut back on the lifestyle, huh? No more shopping sprees, sell a couple Lear Jets....well, we can always hope that some of these people have to spend a looooonnnng time sleeping over the sidewalk heating grates or living in a refrigerator box. Might just open their eyes to what is going on....but I doubt it. Papa and mama will always be there to bail them out. Preaching to the choir again. |

Subject: RE: BS: Cheney to Unemployed: Make $ on ebay! From: Nerd Date: 13 Sep 04 - 05:59 PM Here is the AP report: (AP) -- Indicators measure the nation's unemployment rate, consumer spending and other economic milestones, but Vice President Dick Cheney says it misses the hundreds of thousands who make money selling on eBay. "That's a source that didn't even exist 10 years ago," Cheney told an audience in Cincinnati on Thursday. "Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay." San Jose, Calif.-based EBay Inc. is an Internet auction site where anyone can sell just about anything, including clothing, cell phones, jewelry, memorabilia, trinkets and automobiles. Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards responded that Cheney's comments show how "out of touch" he and President Bush are with the economy. "If we only included bake sales and how much money kids make at lemonade stands, this economy would really be cooking," Edwards said in a statement. |
