Nothing to do with music at all.
Yesterday I bought myself a 1937 Austin 7 Open Tourer, so I expect to spend more time in the garage, and less on the computer. It's lovely, and even older than me.
Giok

Is that one of those little green sports cars that make a man look so sexy? Will it be ready for my visit next year?

Austin 7 are saloons (????) with running boards. Think compact.

I had a '56 Austin Westminster for years... I still miss it.

Take your time, John... uhhh does it run? What kind of condition is it in?

Have fun with it. I'll be thinking of you while I spend less time here, too. Getting ready for a trip and then gone several weeks.

It's an open tourer, i.e. not a saloon, and yes it runs, and were the clutch working I could drive it around. It has wire wheels, and old fashioned trafficators, which for you young uns, are little illuminated arms that flick up at the desired side to indicate that you are turning. It is also tiny, about 10feet long, and 5foot high.
Actual car
Giok

Giok === what a ripper vehicle - the only better would be an Austin Bantam of the same vintage. The snaps take me back to me youth - learnt to drive in my Aunt's 7 'saloon' of the same vintage. A 1952 A40 Countryman was the nearest Austin I ever owned (and wrote off) - did time with a Morris 8 though.....

Get into the shed and sort out your sticky crutch (whoops clutch) a good scratch should help

And as to trafficators - haven't heard the word in yonks...

Have a ball chum, but watch out for Scammells, Scanias and Albions....

Cheers Sam

A bloke named Chris Nicholson wrote a song about an Austin 7 back in the sixties. Can't remember much except bits of the chorus:

It's an Austin 7, just a little baby Austin,
The cutest little car upon the road (beep! beep!)

Can probably dig out more if you want it, Giok.

Mumble... didn't Arthur Askey (or somesuch) have an Austin 7 song?

"In my little baby austin 7"

Sam

There's a song on the A30-35 Owners Page which reminds me of the time we lugged a teacher's Austin 7 to the upstairs passage of our school. Umm.. shackle yours to a thundering great concrete mooring block Goik

Oops! Guest 04.35 was me.

I always thought Chris wrote the song, Billy. I certainly haven't heard anybody else sing it. Now I'll have to check.
