John D. Holland, Concord (New Hampshire) - World War II veteran loved music

John Dudley Holland, 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association's Hospice House in Concord.

A celebration of his life will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Pub Restaurant in Keene. Brunch will be held at 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, Hospice House, P.O. Box 1797, Concord 03302-1797.

Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.


He was born in Norfolk, Va., as the son of John Dudley Holland and Jessie Fisher Holland.
He graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk and served in the Army in World War II in the Medical Corps from 1944 to 1946.

He worked and retired from Burroughs Corp. in the service and parts department in varying managerial positions and in different locations in Alabama, Bogotá, Columbia and Georgia.

John enjoyed the latter years of his retirement living on Highland Lake in Stoddard with his daughter, Jan, and his "good buddy," Fenton Fitzpatrick. He is remembered by family and friends for his gentle nature, wry sense of humor and deep love of music.

He is survived by a daughter, Jan Holland of Peterborough; a son, Bill Holland of West Chester, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Carol Downs of Birmingham, Ala., and Jane Crosta of Atlanta; a sister, Jesse Holland Hall of Whitestone, Va.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edith Newton, former Montana resident, went to heaven Sept. 28, 2004. She ended her time on earth in Rupert, Idaho.

Dear Concord,
I live near Keene, graduated from Concord High, and I'm sorry to say I never knew John Holland but I offer condolences and sympathy to you and to the Holland family.
