I always loved the theme song from the movie "The Longest Day". Maurice Jarre wrote the musical score for the soundtrack. However, I understand that lyrics were written for that song and that it was actually recorded by Paul Anka. Does anyone know who wrote the lyrics and if you have them can you please post them to this thread.

It was written by Paul Anka.
I have the sheet music, I will try to find it for you.

Chords are taken straight from the piano score,
so trial and error to see which ones can be left out?

Ou mots a cet effet! I was living in France when the film was first released back in the early 60s. It was strange to watch it with all the French subtitled English and German dialogue, but for some reason that one verse of the French lyric stuck in my memory (more or less!)

Hi Kemmy, you did a great job of the lyrics and guitar chords. If you have access to a scanner and could email me a scan of the score in .TIF (B&W only) I can produce MIDI/NWC/ABC files for Mudcat. I can't find a MIDI online anywhere and I don't know the tune. Please PM for my emaol address.

I remember the tune to all the stanzas, but I forgot how the chorus tune goes. A midi file would definitely be helpful. SOL ZELLER

The music for The Longest Day sounds exactly like "The Vacant Chair" written around the civil war era. I don't think that Paul Anka wrote that.
