Subject: RE: UK: Suffolk landlord wants session? From: Grab Date: 10 Nov 04 - 11:37 AM Shanghaiceltic, I'm in Cambridge. Be fun to meet up somewhere. There's a session in Haslingfield at the Little Rose pub every second Wednesday, and at the Unicorn in Cherry Hinton (not the Unicorn in Trumpington) every third Wednesday. These are both very informal, basically fun singaround/playaround sessions. Expect them to have a high Xmas content in December, although on the plus side you might get mince pies if the landlords are feeling generous. Also there are sessions every Friday at the Red Lion in Whittlesford (fairly trad folk) and at the Bees In The Wall in Whittlesford (not very folky, more social). These are the ones we go to regularly. There's also performances at the Portland Arms and CB2 on a regular basis, and there's loads of other pubs around the town that do music. Plus the Corn Exchange for more serious performances as well. Check the local papers for what's on when you get over here. You might want to start yourself a new thread for this, in case people don't see this one... Graham. |
Subject: RE: UK: Suffolk landlord wants session? From: treewind Date: 10 Nov 04 - 03:27 PM Also a mostly English (+ Shetland, Swedish, French etc.) music session with some singing, on Sunday nights. 1st Sunday (i.e. Dec 5) The Dyke's End, Reach (near Burwell, east of Cambridge) 2nd Sunday (i.e. Dec 12) The Hoops, Gt Eversden (west of Cambridge) 3rd Sunday (Dec 19) Dyke's End, Reach again. 4th Sundays Three Tuns, Abington, just off the Haverhill road - but Shanghaiceltic will be gone by then. Of course I'll post any further news about the Whepstead White Horse as and when. I'm not sure whether Brian's still expecting anyone on 16th as he originally posted but my guess is (a) you'll be more than welcome if you turn up with voices and instruments (b) better phone to let him know. He's definitely expecting music on Jan 11! Anahata |

Subject: RE: UK: Suffolk landlord wants session? From: Grab Date: 11 Nov 04 - 11:20 AM Thanks, Anahata - I didn't know about them. Might get out there and try them sometime. :-) Of course, Cambridge being Cambridge, the problem is not scarcity but choosing what you want to go to each night! Graham. |
Subject: RE: UK: Suffolk landlord wants session? From: Mary Humphreys Date: 11 Nov 04 - 12:01 PM Anahata forgot to mention that the singing at the Sunday night sessions at Cambridge can be in English, Welsh or French, as there are fluent speakers & singers in all three languages there! Mary |

From: treewind Date: 02 Mar 05 - 05:28 PM Next one's next Tuesday - 8 March Mary will be in hospital so neither of us will be there buyt the session is definitely happening.
