Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Can't Tame Wild Women (Bill Boyd) From: GUEST Date: 12 Oct 12 - 11:34 AM I mean the first one you've listed: westernswing. I've never come across the second one: I'll have a look at it. The third one, western-swing, was abandoned some years ago: the members transferred to westernswing. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Can't Tame Wild Women (Bill Boyd) From: PHJim Date: 10 Oct 12 - 11:05 AM John Hartford's "Hey Babe You Wanna Boogie", although he does it acapella, can be sung to these same chords. Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant" also uses the same progression. "Jada" uses different chords for the bridge, but the same chords for the verses. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Can't Tame Wild Women From: GutBucketeer Date: 28 Oct 04 - 01:31 AM Thanks 12s! Here is one more verse from Hot Club in Cowtown: I can't tame wild women, but I can make tame women wild. I can't tame wild women, but I'm the guy what will try. Oh the baker's daughter left me feelin' low. With a whole lot of crust but not any dough. I can't tame wild women, but I can make tame women wild |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Can't Tame Wild Women From: 12-stringer Date: 27 Oct 04 - 06:12 PM There's a whole slew of songs which use this same structure, everything from Bessie Smith's "Electric Chair Blues" to Jimmie Rodgers' "Nobody Knows But Me." Even Robert Johnson does it, in his only ragtime tune, "Hot Tamales." Blake ("Skoodle Doo Doo"), McTell ("Real Kind Mama," "Razor Ball," "Come On Around to My House Honey" -- he claims to have written the original version, though my favorite is the reworking by Durwood Brown and the Brownies), and Buddy Moss, among others, and Fuller did this about a dozen times, always with entertainingly dirty lyrics ("What's That Smells Like Fish?", "Throw Your Yas-Yas Back in Jail," "Piccolo Rag"). I first learned it in the 60s as "If I Can't Sell It, Gonna Keep Sitting On it (Never Catch Me Giving It Away)." "Walk Right In" is a close relative though the break is a little different. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Can't Tame Wild Women From: GutBucketeer Date: 26 Oct 04 - 11:26 PM Interesting. I thought it sounded like another Milton Brown Tune called "Take it Slow and Easy" but didn't catch the similarities to "Bring it On Down to My House, Honey". Now I do. Thanks a Bunch JAB |
Subject: RE: Chord Req: I Can't Tame Wild Women From: 12-stringer Date: 26 Oct 04 - 06:47 PM Same as "Bring It On Down to My House, Honey." By line, with the lyrics: C-A7-D7-G7-C C-A7-D7-G7 C-C7 F-F#0* C-A7-D7-G7-C *or Ab7, which is almost the same thing. |
