Hillary Clinton has been firmly predicted as candidate for the 2004 election in Mudcat by troll in 2000. But troll was never good in predictions.

I'll refresh this thread in 2008.

By the way, it has been fun to read some post-election threads from 2000. Many names have been mentioned (Gore in four, to name but one), but Kerry was not among them. What does that tell us about the relevance of this thread?

Wolfgang

Spare us from Hillary. Even Democrats didn't like her as the first lady, she would never get through primaries as a presidential candidate.
Give us John Edwards in '08.

That's intersesting about feingold. I'll have to take a closer look at him. I like the idea of Richardson.

I'd love to see Hilary run and win, but I don't think the way the country is right now, that she'd get elected.

Sol...I TOTALLY agree with you on Obama. I WISH he'd be ready by 2008, who knows? That young man is exciting!!

We have a lot of work to do before 2008 to make sure this kind of bs which happened this time doesn't stand a chance in hell next time.

Nope. Russ Feingold, just re-elected in Wisconsin by a landslide, and the only US Senator to vote against the Patriot Act. He's the party's man for 2008. New blood. A backbone. Works well with others (McCain Feingold campaign finance reform--hell, at least they TRIED to clean up some graft) the other side of the aisle...

And Very Handsome. Not of the Northeast Liberal stock, but is a not-quite Debs sort of Dem. He could put a Western/Southen state politician like Bill Richardson of New Mexico on the ticket, and the Dems could in like flint in 2008. Richardson was ambassador to the UN, former House Rep from NM, former Cabinet secretary for energy, has a lot of solid experience--including being nominated for the Nobel, though I don't know what for, and he was a Clintonian, so it would keep that wing of the party under lock and key where they belong. Feingold or Tom Harkin of Iowa. Either one of them, from the Democratic wing of the party, would bring the left back into the equation.

Well, it would be something to see the expression on Republicans' faces if she ever got elected...! :-) And I suppose she could IF Bush completely destroyed his own party's reputation in the next 4 years. I think he may very well do that. In that case, Hillary could cruise to a victory in 2008. I don't trust her as far as I could throw a refrigerator.

Hard to say, but there's a lot you can speculate about, that's for sure. I think it would be extremely hard to get the American population to vote in a female president, besides which, Hillary is too unpopular already with a very significant segment of the US public. Political parties tend to pick people who are as uncontroversial as possible to present as candidates (unless, of course, they are incumbents...in which case they ARE controversial by definition). They do this in their craven search for votes and are always looking for a candidate that no one could possibly dislike. It's an impossible concept to satisfy, given the vicious nature of partisan politics, but it does often result in the nomination of remarkably colorless and uninspiring candidates whom people only vote for because they bitterly hate the incumbent.

Damn---sounds like the dead are not buried and we are speaking of the the will already.

I happen to like Hillary and think she could make a great ---how about this--Pres. not a decorative 1st lady.    But, sadly, she is too divisive in the nation's perception of her.

Frankly, Kerry should have another run---he would win hands down. And Hillary for a running mate---ideal, but problematical.

That said---why are we rushing time so much===there are 4 long years of banality to live through---if we do.

As to dear Rudy---spare the world of his egomania and lack of a world view. The former hounding DA had a really bad reputation in this area until he grandstanded after the 9/11 tragedy. I add to that list the egomaniacal Ed Koch (how am I doin'---great for your ego as always) Grandstanding.   I might add that the Republicans used it in this election---and it never got them one state in the area that is most prone to attack---only in those that listen to the "cowboy's" one liners. But, the Dakotas are safe now.

Hilary, Gephardt, Daschle, Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman, Gore--all represent the Dem Leadership Council that has seriously lost the Democrats power BIG TIME. The party is now in free floating anxiety, having lost both long time leaders of the House and Senate in the past year.

That group of conservative Dems holds no political credibility anymore in the party. I really can't see anyone from that group waging a successful campaign in 2008. The party is desperate for a thousand Obamas.

Rudy does not have a prayer. The mafia rumors will start floating. Middle America won't stand for it.

I would hope Hillary runs, but it is obviously too early to figure out what the climate will be in 2008.

Hillary is a very smart lady. She did not want to run now, because it is always difficult to defeat an incumbent President during war time. She bet on Kerry losing now so she could run in 2008. She is now the most popular figure in the Democratic Party. I predict that she will run and win in 2008. Her running mate will probably be Dick Gephart. The GOP on the other hand will run Jeb Bush (Governor of Florida), who will attempt to extend the family dynasty another 8 years, with Rudy Guiliani as his running mate. SOL ZELLER

Was that the right wing conspiracy Hillary talked about ?

Actually, I think she'd probably make a good president.

On the other hand, I doubt strenuously that we'll ever know. She is freighted down with way too much ill will to be nominated, much less elected. Now, conceivably as vice-president, but I doubt it.

I think she was part of the plan to defeat Kerry. I think she is sinister and I hope to heavens she does not run. Maria Cantwell, yes. Condaleeza Rice, yes. Other women, yes. Do not rule out Maria Shriver and her husband who can not run. mg

My guess is that - yes - she'll run. And I think she has the best chance to win of any of the women politicians out there. Whether she can beat the men in the field is another question alltogether.
