Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Snuffy Date: 08 Nov 04 - 09:34 AM As in most things, I'm above average. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: mack/misophist Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:02 AM As in all other things, I'm below average. Except, of course, evilness. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: MBSLynne Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:20 AM Damn! Too close to average! I HATE being average! |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: dianavan Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:23 AM wah! I'm older than average. d |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Peace Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:24 AM I am above average for the first time in my life. Thank you, Skipy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Crane Driver Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:50 AM Not only am I above average age, I also have more than the average number of legs for a human. Makes you think, don't it? Andrew |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST,Skipy Date: 08 Nov 04 - 11:34 AM I also have more than the average number of limbs Skipy |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Billy Weeks Date: 08 Nov 04 - 11:59 AM Thanks, Skipy. You make me feel so young. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Billy Weeks Date: 08 Nov 04 - 12:05 PM Only 26 years above the average. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: *daylia* Date: 08 Nov 04 - 04:12 PM OK, I knew there was some reason I didn't post my age till now. It's time to bring all you above average 'Cats back down to earth! Here goes ... according to the usual unreliable sources I've had 23 lifetimes as a human being, which has taken me about 4600 years - including sick leave, sabbaticals, a couple between-life incarcerations and a few dozen extended holiday cruises through the lower astral realms (otherwise known as the etheric "red light district"). So that makes me the Grand Total of 4646.64 years young, as of today. (Non-human incarnations not included). Does that raise our average a little? |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Blissfully Ignorant Date: 08 Nov 04 - 07:14 PM Can i use the average age for getting into pubs? |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Kaleea Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:07 PM I was informed by my youngest nephew that I "have the spirit of a child" & am much more of a kid than a grown-up. The kids have all decided that my age is 15-going on 6! So why don't my old bones believe that?! |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Splott Man Date: 09 Nov 04 - 02:28 AM OK so that's the average. Now what's our mean age? Have you got a demographic graph? (I'll get me zimmer) |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Gurney Date: 09 Nov 04 - 04:31 AM Above average here, too. I had to think about the average # of limbs bit, but yeah that must be <4, of course. No-one is to give Skipy any more information. He is a statistician. He thinks that if you have your head in the cooker and your feet in the freezer, you must be comfortable. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST,Charmion at work Date: 09 Nov 04 - 03:10 PM For the first time in my 50.2 or so years of life, I am absolutely -- AVERAGE! I can't STAND it! |

Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 10 Nov 04 - 10:43 AM Splott Man said: What's our mean age? I will avoid the obvious pun. To deal with the question, "mean" and "average" are the same thing. Now, it would be interesting to know the mode, median, and range. The mode is the the most frequent age cited Median is the halfway point from youngest to oldest Mean is average--that is, the total value of all instances divided by the number of instances. And the range, of course, is the "youngest" and "oldest" figures. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: MBSLynne Date: 10 Nov 04 - 10:44 AM So....what are they all then? |

Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 10 Nov 04 - 05:14 PM OK - I can't remember how to do it, but what is hte standard deviation? What is the probability of anyone being (or not being) at any given point in the range? epn |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Burke Date: 10 Nov 04 - 06:17 PM At 50.53 I am pretty close to average. I think that says it all. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: CarolC Date: 10 Nov 04 - 07:03 PM I'm below the average, but when I become the average, will I bump up the average? |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 10 Nov 04 - 07:31 PM If John 'Giok' MacKenzie wasn't lying when he said his average age is 21, then his current age is 41. One's personal "average age" (the sum of all the ages one has ever been, divided by one's current age) will always be equal to one-half of one's current age plus one-half year. Try it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Peace Date: 10 Nov 04 - 07:35 PM I didn't do enough of anything in the 1960s to understand this. Let me see if I got this right. I am 57. So if I take half my age that would be 28.5 plus a half year. That then makes me 29. Hoooooly. I feel younger already. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Peace Date: 10 Nov 04 - 07:37 PM Sporry, Skipy. You'll have to redo the average. I'm now 29. Thanks Bee-dubya-ell. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Splott Man Date: 11 Nov 04 - 10:02 AM "...mode, median, and range..." Thanks Uncle Dave, that's what I meant. My mean (UK) age was 21, when I wouldn't lend anything to anyone. My mean (US) age was 52, when I hated the world, but I'm better now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST,noddy Date: 11 Nov 04 - 10:54 AM I was below average when this started but now I am above average OR the average has increased and I am still below average..... discuss!!! Oh, Rapaire, I did not realise you were that old? |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST Date: 11 Nov 04 - 02:37 PM Not at all surprised that the results are the majority of posters here are over the thirty something range, as that is seen everyday in the conservative bent of the posters themselves. Folk music as a scene draws from a generally conservative part of the population (ie--speaking in broad generalities, people who value "tradition" over "innovation" and/or "contemporary" sorts of music/music scenes). Also, folk music scene is pretty much inhabited by older sorts of adults, even though more youngsters have come onto the scene in the past decade than I've seen in ages. But still, most have drifted in and out of the "scene" and certainly the majority of them don't devote themselves to the folk music scene exclusively. The emotional maturity age level here, often seems stuck somewhere around age 10-12, and with some of the more obsessive-abusive types, we are probably talking negative ranges. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Peace Date: 11 Nov 04 - 05:48 PM Oh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 11 Nov 04 - 06:19 PM "...that is seen everyday in the conservative bent of the posters themselves." I'm just thankful it's only bent and not broke. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST,moonglow Date: 11 Nov 04 - 07:35 PM haha, I bring the average down! So don't panic if you are above average, it's all my fault. If I wasn't counted, you'd be average. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST,noddy Date: 12 Nov 04 - 04:35 AM HELP I dont want to be average. But I dont know if less than average is better than more than average. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Crane Driver Date: 12 Nov 04 - 10:36 AM Any fool can be young. Takes determination and perseverance to get to 50. It wasn't until the 1960s that this idea of youth being better than age started, and like a lot of things that started in the '60s (I'm told I was there) it doesn't really stand up to scrutiny. Never mind, those of you "below average" can be honorary "old folkies" until you make it by rights. ;-} Andrew (55) |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: GUEST,Joe Date: 12 Nov 04 - 11:43 AM Where's the spreadsheet analysis? I want to see the frequency didstribution so I can work out the deviations for myself. On another subject 75% of men interviewed said they were above average???*** Size obviously does matter |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Dave Hanson Date: 13 Nov 04 - 01:58 AM Yes but what does our age mean ? eric |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: MBSLynne Date: 13 Nov 04 - 07:21 AM Deviations? Among folkies?! |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Scoville Date: 14 Nov 04 - 12:01 AM Whoa, I'm way below average. However, that's probably close to the average age of my non-Mudcat friends so maybe my physical age isn't my true age and I'm right on target. |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Genie Date: 14 Nov 04 - 10:09 PM Looks like I just upped the average, folks. As of today, I'm elegible for (reduced benefit) Social Security. Guess that makes me above average too, and "ages" the "average" catter, too. LOL |
Subject: RE: BS: Average age result From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 15 Nov 04 - 03:50 AM An army of lawyers led by Richard Bridge and InObu are scrutinizing these results. Clearly some of the dead (or brain-dead) have voted, some have voted twice, some votes are unclear, even when held up to the light. All the results from Florida were blown away by Ivan.... RtS (still 61 and 5"8") |
