Subject: BS: & Now for Something Completely Different From: Ebbie Date: 14 Nov 04 - 12:56 AM In the November/December magazine issue of 'Best Friends' animal sanctuary they have a short article on Eric Idle. They say: "As fans of the old Monty Python show in the U.K. we were delighted to spot Eric Idle one day visiting Best Friends with his wife and daughter." They interviewed him. Among the things he said: "Americans are very sensitive people so I don't want to hurt their fellings because I live here among them. I love the fact that they think they are leading the world, whereas if they look behind them they will see that nobody's following. I like the way that they feel that death is optional. That somehow if you take enough pills and if you're slim enough, you don't have to go through that particular unpleasant stage. "I do love Americans. I have lived in France and enjoyed French liberte but I think American freedom is actually a very strong thing, providing they stick with it (which is in some doubt at the moment). It is a really wonderful state to live in, where freedom of speech is guaranteed and you can say what you think and feel." Best Friends is a wonderful, unique place. (Try www.bestfriends.org, if you don't mind getting hooked.) This winter I hope to be able to stop off for several days there at Angel Canyon, Kanab, Utah. They say that they can always use volunteers even it's only for scooping the poop! |
