FOX Broadcasting is applying to allow their signal into Canada.

I am appalled but what can be done to stop them if you believe in free speech?

I do not want to see rural Canadians exposed to such blatant propaganda but isn't that the same as saying they can't think for themselves?

Is there any way to stop this?

Give them examples of times when FOX has been Faux. Make sure the press tells them plenty of stories about how FOX got the news wrong, or put their own spin on a story. If people know they're being flim flammed, they'll ignore the flim flammery.

If there is a "satan" personified on Earth today, his name is Rupert Murdoch. He has taken more than a few media outlets worldwide and transmogrified them into either a) a soft porn crapheap , or b) a far right parcel of venomous lies. And he claims to be "christian", like some others of his ilk. 'Fox" should have NO voice in a decent society; "free speech" and "freedom" should never mean freedom to do or say as you like, no matter how foul your "output" might be.

Well, Fox is already available to millions of Canadians via cable, which thousands of small towns have. Anyone with a dish is likely getting it too, and if you drive about the countryside, there are a zillion dishes. Fox is part of my cable package but I don't pay attention to it. I get my TV news from CBC, CTV, and once in a while CityTV (I have family in Toronto).

Fox is just another indication of how stupid entertainment needs to be to be entertaining to the masses. If it wants to buy Cdn stations, I hope someone here is smart enough to stop it.

I listened to CBC radio all the time when I lived in Erie, PA. Is the border closed to radio and television signals going the other way? How high up does the barrier go, and is it closed at the top to prevent satellite broadcasts from getting through? Gosh, I always thought that Canada had a much more open society!

Apparently they have to make a submission to the CRTC to add their signals to eligible satellite signals.

Mooh - Its good to know that, given the opportunity, you prefer Canadian broadcasts.

I don't want watch much t.v. - I think its all Capitalist mind control so I didn't realize it was available up here (its not included in my cable package).

That said - Why do they need permission? Does it have something to do with Canadian content?

I don't think anyone should be exposed to 'mind control' or newscasts that present only one side. Trouble with FOX is that it is presented as an objective source. People tend to believe it is the truth when, in fact, it isn't. I hope Canadians will not be exposed to such drivel. If they choose it, well, Canada will soon be another Bush State.

I agree. I don't think Canada is ready for free speech.   I don't think the people there can handle diversity of opionion.   I suggest we keep feeding them government controlled socialist programming.    It keeps them in line better.   Al Jezera -yes Fox- no

PS:   In a Pew Poll we stupid americans just rated Fox News the most trusted news channel above CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and all the others.

PS:   When you explain to canadians about all the mistakes Fox News has made in covering the news it would be good to skip over the forged memos on CBS, or the fake car explosions, or the fake allar story, or Jayson Blair, or the 18 month old missing weapons story.   It will just confuse everyone.

If people want sugar coated news that tows the party line then of course they will vote for a station like Fox. Popular votes in such matters mean little when it come to the quality of the news being reported.

I allways thought that CNN did rather well in the Babes department. I once suggested to a publicist that worked for CNN that they produce a CNN Babes swimsuit calender, I don't think much came of it though.Shame.

Your 'attack' on my country simply says to me that you don't know a damn thing about us. We are democratic. Sorry that all Canadians getting free health care pisses you off, or that you see that as being 'socialistic'. Hell, it's just common sense, and maybe YOUR country could benefit the health of its citizens by following our example.

Fox is available on cable in all Canadian cities. So is MSNBC, CNN, BBCnews and Aljazeera (both 24 hours), etc. on several cable outlets.
Good to have them all, whether one agrees with their editorial slant or not.

Our former PBS station in Los Angeles offers an hour a day of English language Al Jezeera...haven't watched it, but I pop onto Al Jezeera online a couple of times a week. I find it pretty tame in English...don't know about in Arabic since I neither read nor speak it.

Qatar's main city, Doha, is now an international business and educational center. Aljazeera has become more like the BBC. I used to watch their online printed version occasionally a while back, when anti-Israel material was common, including some pretty biting cartoons- but that has changed. They do have more Middle East news than BBC.

There are plenty of places to find truth, or at least differing opinions and make a studied decision. I have never seen Fox. CBC is fine.
