Subject: Lyr Req: l'Internationale in Irish? From: GUEST,JTT Date: 26 Nov 04 - 07:33 AM I'm told that Peadar Kearney translated l'Internationale into Irish. Would anyone have the words, please? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: l'Internationale in Irish? From: GUEST,Martin Ryan Date: 26 Nov 04 - 07:38 AM Seems unlikely Kearney would have done so. That said, I think there's a website somehwere with versions in many languages. Did we have it here beofre? I'll look Regards |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: l'Internationale in Irish? From: GUEST,Criostóir Date: 27 Nov 04 - 06:36 AM I don't know that Kearney translating 'the International' into Irish is all that unlikely. If I'm not mistaken wasn't he in The Curragh Internment Camp with several other prominent left-wing Gaeilgeoirí during W War II? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: l'Internationale in Irish? From: MartinRyan Date: 27 Nov 04 - 09:26 AM Criostóir As far as I know, Kearney died in 1942, at home in Inchicore. Don't think he was still involved in politics at that stage. I was thinking more of the level of Irish, I suspect. He didn't do the Irish version of Amhrán na bhFiann, for example. Regards |
