Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: Leadfingers Date: 06 Dec 04 - 06:34 AM All respect to Dave Kelly for his writing , but there is a North East song which predates it by several years (or several decades ) which is sung by Anni Fentiman (Mrs Dave Weber) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: dianavan Date: 06 Dec 04 - 03:24 PM Leadfingers - Does the North East version have different lyrics? Can you provide them? Thanks. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: Desert Dancer Date: 06 Dec 04 - 11:10 PM Leadfingers, Liverpool Lullaby (by Stan Kelly) is copyright 1964... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: Desert Dancer Date: 06 Dec 04 - 11:53 PM Well, that 1964 was according to Judy Collins; it's 1960 (Heathside Music) and "Tune: Traditional ("Dollia," Tyneside); arr. Stan Kelly" according to this old site of Kelly's. (Correct lyrics there, too.) "Dollia" is what Ani Fentiman sings -- I've not heard it. Are the lyrics related at all, or did he just use the tune? ~ Becky in Tucson |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: Desert Dancer Date: 07 Dec 04 - 12:35 AM O.k., yes I have: Louie Killen on "Along the Coaly Tyne". Unrelated lyrics, as far as I can understand them! Tune also used by the Ian Campbell Folk Group for "The Sandgate Dandle" on Coaldust Ballads. (Words by the blind fiddler, Robert Nunn, who died in 1853.) And, that is the other item that comes up when you enter "Liverpool Lullaby" into the DT search box. It's listed as "Dol-li-a", for some strange reason. There's a note about Stan Kelly's use of the tune there... need to get it with the LL lyrics! (I'll pursue the DT Attribution permathread.) ~ B in T |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: Leadfingers Date: 07 Dec 04 - 09:17 PM Snuff - Hinny Bird is a totally different song mate - Honest ! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Wait til your da gets home From: Joe Offer Date: 08 Dec 04 - 04:15 AM Take a look at the Sandgate Dandle thread for various songs that use this tune. I think I'd say "Liverpool Lullaby" is a descendant of "Dandle," although they're different enough that maybe we can't say they're the same song. -Joe Offer- |
