I'm looking for a copy of Mise Éire, George Morrison's film about the 1916 Rising, using contemporary footage. It's out of print in Ireland, and there are no plans to put it on DVD until next autumn - "nó nios déanaí, bhféidir", according to Gael-Linn. So if I can get a copy I'll get it transferred to DVD myself, if possible, and have a copy I can watch on the TV.

Doesn't matter if it's PAL or NTSC; apparently Euro-VCRs can show either.

If you get a result with this, JTT, maybe you'd be willing to supply me with a copy on DVD, on suitable terms. Good luck!

I would, Peter K. If it were actually available on DVD from Gael-Linn, I wouldn't, but since it isn't...

Mind you, I have to find out if I can get it transferred first.

If you have any luck I would also be interested. I have been on the lookout for a copy of this film for some time. Hope you are successful

I have Saoirse (the next film, about the War of Independence). I don't know where we'd get An Tine Bheó (elderly ex-fighters talking in the 1960s).

I was astonished when I went looking for the DVD - I assumed that it would be in every DVD rental place, and more than that, that both films would be on the history and Irish curriculum in Irish schools. In any other country, could you imagine actual historic film of its founding revolution not being on the curriculum?
