Subject: Greenland Whale Fisheries -- Which Tune? From: Peter T. Date: 20 Dec 04 - 01:05 PM We have a number of threads on the Greenland Whale Fisheries, but I noticed that the one that most people cite has "brave boys" in the refrain (and is the one on Mudcat MIDI. The Watersons sing a different tune (it sounds in part a little like "Loch Lomond" ) with slightly different words -- does anyone know anything about this second tune? Is it original to the song, etc.? yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Greenland Whale Fisheries -- Which Tune? From: Georgiansilver Date: 20 Dec 04 - 01:20 PM Hi PeterT, I have sung this to the tune of "The Lowlands of Holland" which involves singing it with two verses as one....so effectively three 8 line verses instead of six four line ones. Nice tune. Best wishes, Mike. |
