Subject: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 23 Jan 05 - 03:44 AM is that how you spell things? it looks a bit odd, not that i really give a shit, [this is music site, not spelinng site] anyway = i went ysterday to Skeletons [its a local bakery], and bought sausadge and tomato sandwidge , and they put it in big box, i got a bit exited, as they put price up, [to 1,50 pounds] . but i went home, = [i only live next door, so not far then], but see it is normal size, and i got un exited.! fiddling basterds! and another thing is, they put coco pops in a big box, but wehn you open it, its halkf emty, and it says on the side="if the box is half emty, its becase of, they got shook up in the truck and tyhat, ie = coco pops might settle during transit. bloddy rip off , if you ask me. |

Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: Teresa Date: 23 Jan 05 - 04:10 AM Oh, remember when cDs used to come in that horrible blister-packing? You'd cut and cut this huge piece of plastic, and wonder that you didn't cut your fingers off, and finally out would come this modest little CD, and you'd have to throw this big hulking sharp plastic thing in the garbage, and smush it down (again careful not to cut your hand off ...). Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: C-flat Date: 23 Jan 05 - 04:32 AM When I worked in the wholesale/retail industry we used to have certain items that were known as "windbags". Ideal for the prize-bingo operaters to make a display or "flash", they were inexpensive goods, often toys, whose value owed more to the lavish packaging than to the contents. A good example of a "windbag" would be the "painting by numbers" set which had a window-box-opening, displaying the contents in an area of around 10" x 6". The box itself measured something like 30" x 18" and was otherwise empty. I know people like that too. I used to enjoy doing the "bingo run". We'd load a van and, starting in Redcar, work our way down the coast calling on all the prize bingos until we'd reach Bridlington. With a precious cargo of ornamental glass fish, larva-lamps and assorted wind-bags to sell, the trip could last a couple of days. |

Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: Big Al Whittle Date: 23 Jan 05 - 07:10 PM games used to be like that - a big flashy box and a little disc. pizzas too. you think there is going to be lot of cheese on them due to the picture on the packet, but alas no. some bastards make cds a bit like that too.... a couple of good uns and fair amount of tripe. You think, it can't be tripe. I'll give ita chance, but first instincts are invariably spot on. Trailers for TV programmes - they show the only well written suspenseful 10 seconds from three hour orgy of complete cobblers. as you sagely remark...little things in big boxes. A fair assessment of life itself, I have found. however certain things don't disappoint, but I can't remember what the last one was. |
Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: Sorcha Date: 23 Jan 05 - 07:16 PM Well, my dad's boy scouts once got him an updated Scout handbook for Christmas.....and they packed in in a coffin case full of excelsior.....was pretty funny. |

Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: Liz the Squeak Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:22 PM I hate them too... It can work the other way as well.. putting a small thing into a smaller box.. makes you think the thing is really big, but in reality, it's just that the box is smaller. Restaurants do it too. Put a standard size meal on a big plate and you think you're getting more food.... last night I had lemon chicken with chips and peas. It came on a plate so big it could have been used as a sledge. There was an ordinary to small spoonful of peas, the usual amount of chips and two chicken breasts in lemon breadcrumbs. It was delicious but chasing the peas around the plate became a bit of a marathon, because the plate was so big! (Stuck 'em together with mayonnaise in the end....) LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: GUEST,MMario Date: 24 Jan 05 - 12:32 PM seems a cruel thing to do to defenseless peas - mayonnaise in the end. Not to mention a bit kinky. |

The garage was the ultimate big box, as she asked where the car was, after I threw open the doors. There, I said, parked in the middle of the floor. A brand new Dinky Renault 5 Turbo. Needless to say the licence wasn't consumated. |

Subject: RE: BS: Small things In Big Boxes From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 27 Jan 05 - 07:14 PM Last year when Jade and I were in the UK she hit the shops in her usual way. When it came time to pack for the return trip to China we were well overweight on the luggage. So we ditched all the bags and cardboard from our purchases and knocked off nealry 4 kilos of mass. These eco-friendly boxes are OK but it still takes energy to manufacture the bloody things. |
