Anyone noticed that the new ITV Drama 'Distant Shores' with Peter Davidson is featuring not only some folk music and song. Last week a major character sang 'Carrickfergus' but also has ex John Wright band ace fiddler Stuart Hardy as an extra playing his fiddle

Music provided by Barbara Dickson, as per the following quote taken from Her web page

Barbara has completed work on the theme music for the new Granada Televsion series "Distant Shores" which is tentatively scheduled for transmission early in the New Year. Barbara provides vocals on the track which also features Troy Donockley, Danny Thompson, Martin Allcock, John Kirkpatrick, Peter Knight and Katherine Tickell. Barbara says that the theme is lovely but we will have to wait until next year to see if Granada will be using it.

The programme has been quirky and entertaining so far.
The odd bits of music have included fiddles and Northumbrian pipes.
I have been wondering who the actual real musicians might be. Any accurate inside info anyone?
I do note that the musical score is credited to Nick Bicat (pardon if spelling is incorrect), who was credited with music for The Irish RM - one of Channel 4's earliest programmes which used to also feature members of De-Dannan as musicians at dances etc.
Quack!!
Geoff the Duck.

Inside information from a man who put together the trailers (which featured music from the Oysterband)

"All the instrumental music was composed especially for the programme, and isn't available to buy (although that may well change if the show turns out to be popular and there's a demand for it). The band was...

Nick Bicat, composer, guitar, keyboards, programming
Danny Thompson, double bass
Peter Knight, violin
Troy Donockley, whistles
Angus Lyon/John Kirkpatrick, squeezeboxes
Kathryn Tickell, Northumbrian pipes
Maartin Allcock, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, cumbus and other weird
stuff

The song near the end (first episode) was Stranger To Himself by the late and truly great Sandy Denny. The programme was shot in and around Craster in Northumberland. "
