Following that Star, Shipmates, its into the Fishermens Club for a swifty, then if the Ships waiting at the Pier our next port of call will be Bar 7. By then I should imagine we,ll be right up the Khyber Pass.

Unless anyone fancies dropping in on the yotties over the lifeboat museum I fancy a trip up the steps at the end of the Crag..view is more interesting than the Khyber, wno's for the Royal?

Mind, it's a bit of a climb if we won't have time to sup on the way down again, and we've only got 45 mins before we're due back on the east side.

Hey, Raggy, did we do right going in the Jollys, that is one of Humphrey's houses? Wanna go back & demand a refund?

Well, we are a way out aren't we. Sport? No thanks, I have ambitions to be a gent of total leisure.

But as we are out this way shall we hunt down the White House. It's one of the few I haven't visited and I hear we may get to mock some golfers. Sporty enough?

Oh sport was a typo? Damned S es get everywhere. Do you know the Bishop of Winchester?

Well I'm weaving about a bit, we can backtrack to the Res easily enough and the Sinner is still downhill from either one.

Anyway aren't we both due at the Butlers' Emporium about now? I think we may be best with a rickshaw.

Nah, just plotting the next move, but if we're doing the clubs as well, how could a chap of your politics bypass the Conservative Club?

OK, so Baxtergate it is...How come I get Rosie's, all the good ones eh?

Small in stature maybe, I think we better had, or the wellies might be applied where we don't want them, and then we'd have to go to the new place oposite (Beans??) that managed more staff than customers on New Year's Eve.

As for Wednesdays, isn't it ALWAYS Wednesday in Whitby? I'll nip outside and check.

Nope, the man on the bridge says it's Friday, but he doesn't know the magic word, so maybe he's an agent of the virtual Alcofrolics Unanimous, and is trying to stop us completing the crawl.

Best wishes in your new venue. As you know (Not the White Horse Folk Club) is now at the Foresters, on the Beck side in Beverley, so best wishes from all at yet another Humpheryed Folk club. It has been hinted that, we also can play in Nellies again on Beverleys Folk weekend, but only that weekend, so I for one, as a person of principal will not be there.

Totally agree with that sentiment oombanjo, there are 365 days in a year he cant have excellent profits from 3 of those days when he pleases, and tell you to piss off for the rest of them, the man has lost the plot.

I think once again people are shooting messengers, it is also the licensee who has backed music in the past who is suffering from the loss of revenue, you now have the opportunity to thanks then for that support, don't cut your noses off .........

Anyway have we got to the Plough yet or should we take a walk to the First In, Last Out .......first

I agree with the sentiment Raggy, but these are managed houses, and, where is the respect and support to the landlord who has put up his cash.

Yes, they are MANAGED houses and as such if they don't adhere to the policy from head office they are out on their ear, alledgely Humphrey visits pubs without forewarning the licensee, on one visit the night before New Years Eve he found a licensee selling alcopops (against company policy)the said licensee was sacked on the spot (allegedly)

Would anyone posting here stick their neck out if it meant losing their income, is there any truth in the rumour that the licensee of the White Horse has "moved on"

Anyway ............ who's for the Ducky Duck

with ref to the licensee of the white horse. She was in the Sun last week, and only mentioned that if unofficial groups or individuals were to turn up and play in nellies over the folk weekend she would not stop it. If it was to happen, let hope that Huhphrey does not turn up, or we will have another casualty to a unjust law. Having said that,I do not think that the rumour has foundation.

Oombanjo, always admire people with principles* but if the aim is to get back to playing at Nellies then it might be as well to be a little pragmatic.

IF, and it's a very big IF, the nod is given to play at a particular time it allows for the possibility of playing in the future. At the moment the door seems very much closed - if there is a possibility of at least having it slightly ajar then it's a step in the right direction, isn't it? Door to door salesman always keep there foot in the door just in case. There are probably plenty of people round the world who have a compete set of encyclopedias because they let the outsider in.

(* Newton and Archimedes immediately spring to mind)

I really don't think that this thread is about Sam Smiths. It's about the New Venue for the Whitby Folk Club. This is in the Friendship and it has a Beer Garden. Which could be used like the Plough Yard and in point of fact it do have a better view. All be it Gil and Denise's floral displays and hanging baskets being very well kept. Talking to Mick Haywood over the weekend and he is more than pleased with the Friendship and the facilities that the members and committee have provided. Which includes a music licence that the Sam Smiths Pub's do not have.
