Square brackets aren't recognized in HTML.. It has to be angle brackets: < and >.

Our first poster got things almost right, except the HTML commands have to be enclosed in <angle brackets>.

testing

<i>testing (italics)</i>

<b>testing (bold)</b>

<marquee>testing (marquee)</marquee>

<font color=orange size=+2>testing (font colors)</font>

<h3>testing (headline - please, no 2's or 1's)</h3>

Now, to display angle brackets is in the Advanced Course....

Sorry, Joe, couldn't resist:

Displaying angle brackets is quite simple: < >
Displaying how to display angle brackets is less simple: &lt; &gt;
Displaying how to display how to display angle brackets is even less simple: &amp;lt; &amp;gt;

;-)

Bill, your code is wrong. With a / in an attribute value, the attribute value must be in single or double quotes (' or ").

cresby.com

hash codes instead of plain text (still have to place quotes and triangular brackets and A and HREF but it works.

Your first blink works fine here.

The thing with the blink and the marquee tags is they are not standard HTML tags. They are introducions by Netscape and Microsoft respectively and may not work on other browsers. I'm using Firefox 1.0 here and that supports both.

Yes, I find that I can see scrolling text but not blinking text on IE and Maxthon.

I used to have Firefox just to try it out but I didn't like it much - particularly the way it scrolled. However I could see blinking text on it.

Maxthon's my favourite - works easily and very similar in appearance to IE, but it has TABS, like Firefox - best of both worlds.

particularly the way it scrolled

I just read my post again. Here I was not referring to the scrolling text but scrolling up and down the page. With Firefox it seemed slow and jerky.
