In the last week 'er so in Virgina the Taliban has been very, very busy. At the stae level one of their members almosr got a bill passed that would have imposed a fine on anyone showing his ot her butt carch or underwear in public.

In Loudoun County, a book by k.L. Going was pulled form the sleves of the public schools because it had the "F Wordz" in it.

Also in Loudoun County, the Taliban, stormed a public hearing to protest the showing of a student written and acted 10 minute play which dealth with homosexuality.

So what's going on in yer neck of the woods?

Nothin' much, really. Legislature voted down a ban on gay marriage 'cause it's already illegal. They're trying to pass a budget that costs more than the taxes bring in without raising taxes or borrowing money. Same-o, same-o.

On the other side of the coin are some hopeful things. Last weekend there were a couple of Pride Chorus concerts that were very well attended by main-stream Juneau. They have gotten really good - and some gorgeous voices - and got two standing ovations.

What struck me was a good news/bad news kind of thing. It was good that they could perform openly and to such acceptance and support. It was bad that even here in times past they would not have been able to do it. In some communities even today there might be death threats, or at the least picketing. I'm proud of my town.

Our state legislature is considering passage of a bill that would allow patrons with "carry" permits for firearms to bring them into Pubs, Bars, Restaurants that serve liquor. Such patrons would be prohibited from drinking alcoholic beverages while on the premises, if "carrying", and if the Pub, Bar, or Restaurant does not wish patrons to "carry" in their establishment, they must prominently display signs prohibiting it.

I am not against citizens owning, or with a permit, carrying firearms, however, I think if this bill passes it will be pure lunacy. I cannot believe the Governor will not veto it.

You're behind, Bobert. They dropped the saggy pants bill. Personally, I don't really want to see someone's underwear sticking out of their trousers, but you can't legislate good taste.
