Subject: BS: Snitch-Gate Heats up.... From: Bobert Date: 16 Feb 05 - 07:57 PM Hmmmmm? Baring the Supreme Court jumping in it looks as if whoever it was in the Bush administration who thought fingering former CIA operative, Valeria Pule, and wife of Joseph Wilson. Wilson, fir those who may have been distratced by the election circus was a guy who was ent to Niger to bring home the good on Saddam trying to buy nuclear material. Problem was that Wilson found there was no factual basis and wrote an edictorial critical of Bush in his run up to war using the Niger/uranium story, which it was... a story... But yesterday a 3-judge panel at the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia unanimously held that Judith Miller of the "New York Times" and Matthew Cooper of "Time" should be held to be in contemp of court for refusing to tell who ratting Ms. Plume out. But, at least IMO, the story doesn't stop there. First of all, neither Miller or Cooper went to press with their stories. Robert Novak, a conservatibe Bushite columnist, did. Why isn't he being threatened with jail time? Second, the Justice Department's Patrick Fitzjerald, who has headed up the investigation, according to the Washingtopn Post, knows who it was in the Bush administration who ratted out Ms. Plume. If so, why make a big deal about Miller and Cooper? And a distant third, while this may seem a victory for those who oppose the secretive and mean-spirited Bushites, this ruling isn't exactly going to make the media, which is allready gun shy, more willing to ask the hard questions if they know they might go to jail for gettin' the answers... Subject: RE: BS: Snitch-Gate Heats up.... From: Peace Date: 16 Feb 05 - 08:06 PM Control the source of information and you control what people think. Fundamental principle of 'war'. Along with water and transport, ya really want to get yer hands on telephone, radio, TV and newspapers. Keeps the ol' population under control. Usually that is done to countries one is invading. Interesting. |

Subject: RE: BS: Snitch-Gate Heats up.... From: Bobert Date: 16 Feb 05 - 08:23 PM What are ya trying to say, brucie? Like we're invadin' ourseleves? Hmmmmmmm? Ineresting observation... I reckon the thing that really bugs me about this is that then Bushites win either way. Oh sure, they may have to sacrifice a middle level player but they send an unmistaken message to media to shut up... And they will look like heros fir sacficin' some shmo who will be taking the bullet fir the one who, behind the scenes ratted out Mrs. Plume: none other than Karl Rove. But they won't let him go down, no way. But this one smells all over of Karl Rove... Bobert |

Subject: RE: BS: Snitch-Gate Heats up.... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 17 Feb 05 - 12:23 AM I was interrupted this morning listening to Nina Totenberg's analysis of that case. I'll have to go look for it. Once I hear her story, it will all be clear. It always is with Nina. (And have you heard that girl sing? She has a fabulous voice!) |

Subject: RE: BS: Snitch-Gate Heats up.... From: Once Famous Date: 17 Feb 05 - 04:54 PM Okay, I know this isn't a true obituary, but maybe it is for this national sport, at least as we know it at the professional level. I also know that few folks outside of Canada (or Canadians) are interested, so please bear with me, or skip to the next thread. For two years, the players and owners have been arguing back and forth over a new binding agreement for wages, bonuses, job security, etc. The most recent contract expired this past spring/summer, and since then the owners have locked out the players... now, on the eve of cancelling the entire season, the players' union has gone back and said, "Okay owners, you can get what you want (sorta)." But, the owners rejected that offer, wanting a little more.... that being said... does anyone care? as far as hockey fans like myself, I mean... |

Subject: RE: BS: Snitch-Gate Heats up.... From: Bobert Date: 17 Feb 05 - 05:16 PM Hmmmmmm? I know I'm on to somethin' that Martin doesn't want folks seriously discussing 'cause rather than just a couple of then usual juvinilish remarks now we get repeated hockey-obits. On this thread it was jusr three. On my other thtread about Condi Rice it was 5. Typical Bushite diversioanry trick and very unimaginative... Bobert |
