Subject: BS: I can't log on! From: GUEST,*Laura* Date: 21 Feb 05 - 09:22 AM It tells me I'm not logged on, so I go to log on. It recognizes my name and e-mail address, but none of my info comes up and I am still not logged on! So I entered allmy info again but it said te name and password and everything already exist (of course they do - they're mine!) So..... what do I do? xLx |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: Jeri Date: 21 Feb 05 - 09:37 AM Entering all of your info is re-registering. Not good. Did you enter your password? If you can't remember it, you can post a message in the Help Forum - unless Joe Offer sees it here. If it's your password you entered and not really your e-mail address, you may have a corrupt cookie and need to clean your browser cache. You can try logging out even if you're not logged in, you can look at the FAQ Permathread for help. If you're using the back door server (the IP number one), you won't be able to use a cookie. |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: GUEST,*Laura* Date: 21 Feb 05 - 04:57 PM Thanks but I don't understand cookies. Or anything to do with computers once they go wrong! Yes I logged on with my name and password - and it said we recognise you as user *Laura* with this e-mail address (my email) then said click to check personal info, and there was nothing there and I hadn't logged on! I din't reregister cos I just entered all my info in case it was lost or something and it said 'a user of this name already exists blah blah blah'. *sigh* xLx |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: JohnInKansas Date: 21 Feb 05 - 05:31 PM Occasionally when you log in, your computer will show you the page that loaded before the login (from temp Internet files on your computer) when you go back to the discussion or other pages. Since you weren't logged in when you were there before, it will look like you're still not. Of course, it you actually are logged in, you can't do it again. Click the refresh button at the top of the discussion page, to make your computer reload a fresh copy. You may see that you actually are logged in. In IE, there's also a "Refresh" icon on the top toolbar. John |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: Cluin Date: 21 Feb 05 - 06:10 PM Your browser is likely set to not receive cookies. Mudcat doesn't recognizre you without one. Have you tried some new internet security measures lately? In Internet Explorer, go to Tools--->Internet Options--->Privacy and see what the privacy slider is set at. |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: GUEST,*Laura* Date: 21 Feb 05 - 06:34 PM The cookie privacy thing is set at Medium. Should I change it? When I enter my name and password it says my cookie has been reset. xLx |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: Cluin Date: 21 Feb 05 - 06:36 PM Medium is good. It should work that way. That's where mine is set. Problem must lie with something else. Are you using a firewall? |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: GUEST,*Laura* Date: 21 Feb 05 - 06:40 PM Not to my knowledge. I don't usually log in - it's usually automatic. So when I wasn't I tried to log in, and then all the above happened. Maybe I've got a virus of some sort - although I have just done a virus scan recently and my msn messenger and all other internet functions are working.... how strange. |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: Cluin Date: 21 Feb 05 - 06:44 PM Don't know what else to suggest, except that you clear your cache and delete all your cookies and try it again. Go to Internet Options again and click on both "delete" buttons under the "General" tab. It also means you'll have to log-in to all other sites you are registered with since they will have to write new cookies to your cache. |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: GUEST,*Laura* Date: 21 Feb 05 - 06:48 PM Oh. Ok. well - I won't do that now. But I'll try it tomorrow. Thankyou! xLx |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: JohnInKansas Date: 22 Feb 05 - 01:00 AM If you're using Internet Explorer, you don't really have to change your overall security settings. Click "Tools" on the top bar. Click "Internet Options" on the menu that drops down. Click the Privacy tab at the top of the menu that opens. Click the button marked "Sites." Type "mudcat.org" (without the quotes) in the little box. Click the "Allow" button. This will let your browser accept a cookie from mudcat, but will have no effect on how it acts at other sites. Other browsers should have similar settings. John |

Subject: RE: BS: I can't log on! From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Feb 05 - 02:34 AM Hi, Laura - I think you're trying too hard. You should be able to go to any of the login (click) links we have, and enter your user name and password. If you have logged out, a logout cookie stays on your computer - then when you go to the login page next time, it recognizes your user name and asks only for your password. Please don't register again. If you have trouble, just send me an e-mail and I'll talk you through it. -Joe Offer (e-mail sent)- joe@mudcat.org |
