Subject: RE: Goat From: GUEST,Mingulay at work Date: 14 Mar 05 - 04:13 AM In the English tradition the goat is "Roasted" from both ends at once (so I have heard). This, apparently, stems from naval custom and practice but is now more prevalent in certain scholastic establishments located within the Thames valley, there is also talk of Royal Households being involved. I am at a loss to understand what is done with the 'un' roasted central portion of the goat. Perhaps someone out there is in the know. |

And goat owners could be assured that thieves would face harsher penalties for stealing the animals, which can range in value from $100 to $16,000. "For years and years, goats have always been the brunt of jokes," said Hendrickson, who has nearly 40 goats on her farm. "They're not a $5 tin-can eating animal anymore." In today's Seattle Times. Subject: RE: Goat From: LadyJean Date: 15 Mar 05 - 12:14 AM I almost married a man who said goats were grounds for divorce. His family raised them for a while, and he had less than pleasant memories of the beasties. When I went to France he asked me to bring him a French post card. So I did. The goats on that card weren't wearing anythin, and one of them was female. I don't know what he was complaining about. Gato is Spanish for cat. The French word for cat is Chat. |

Subject: RE: Goat From: open mike Date: 15 Mar 05 - 03:40 AM baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i have had ( and milked) Nubians, Toggenburgs, Alpines, and the diminuative La Mancha. from their milk i have made yogurt, cheese, ice cream, and (rarely) butter. goat milk is naturally homogenized and the cream does not seperate out unless put thru a centrafuge seperator. it does not just rise to the top like Cow's milk. they all have different ears. Nubians are measured as if wing span, Alpine's ears stick straight up and La mancha are like little flap of skin like a seal or sea lion. theri horns are warm because there is blood flowing inside them, not like antlers which fall off each year. ok that's enough goat lore. i used to milk 22 goats each day for a neighbor. She had to work to make money to feed them, and then had to hire someone to milk them also...she worked cooking for fir fighting crews. baaaaaaaaaaaaaa trip trap trip trap |

Subject: RE: Goat From: Troll Date: 15 Mar 05 - 05:00 PM Azizi, I DO NOT live under a bridge!!!! I live ai a nice dry cave in a comfortable middle-class neighborhood. While I have drunk goats milk on numerous ocassions and enjoy curried goat now and again, I try to avoid live goats as much as possible. They smell. troll |
Subject: RE: Goat From: Ebbie Date: 15 Mar 05 - 05:15 PM The only goat that smells as far as I know is the billy. I don't know what makes HIM smell so bad and I'm afraid to ask. Nannies and wethers (neutered males) sre fine, smellwise. I used to have an Angora wether and he helped me clear my land. I broke over the slim branches of thorntree saplings that I was going to dig out and he was in (goat) heaven. Angoras and some others are browsers while milk (milch) goats are grazers. |
Subject: RE: Goat From: Azizi Date: 15 Mar 05 - 05:31 PM Well Troll, the last Billy Goat Gruff made sure that no troll remained under THAT bridge. And the memory of what happened there that day lives on in folks' memory that no troll would ever think of setting up house anywhere near that place. So I don't blame you for hiding out in a cave. I mean, present company excepted I'm sure, trolls aren't known for being the nicest people on the block... But if you are really a reformed Troll, maybe you need to see if someone would make a hit movie that will improve your folks' image like was done for that green ogre Shrek. And, btw Troll, some people would see you feastin on goats' meat as being retaliation for what happened under that bridge long ago.. but, hey, I'm sure that thought never crossed your mind. :O) |
Subject: RE: Goat From: Little Hawk Date: 15 Mar 05 - 05:40 PM I had a long and happy acquaintance with goats out at Rolling Thunder's camp in the late 70's and early 80's. They're amusing animals. The billies stink dreadfully, though, and are very aggressive. |

Subject: RE: Goat From: Troll Date: 15 Mar 05 - 10:33 PM Freddie is out. The Governor came through for us right after he had a talk with The Other Guy. I didn't even know he had come out of his room and I cannot imagine what he told the Governor to convince him to commute Freddies sentence, but.... I mean I really think that Ten years for jaywalking was a bit severe. Anyhoo, The Other Guy has gone back into his room and locked the door and, while I'm grateful for what he did for Freddy, I'm just as happy that he didn't stick around. Just between you and me, he scares me sometimes. Azizi, I am NOT reformed nor am I hiding out in a cave from anyone. Bridges, culverts, etc are cold and damp. I happen to prefer a nice warm, dry cave, that's all. As far as eating goat, meats meat. What I REALLY like is the curry. troll BTW, that's "troll" with a lower case "t". A small thing but we all have our little ways. t |
Subject: RE: Goat From: CarolC Date: 15 Mar 05 - 10:59 PM Yes, but when freddie walks on jays he does a lot of damage, and bluejays are a protected species. Considering where you all live, I'm surprised he didn't get the chair. |
Subject: RE: Goat From: Azizi Date: 15 Mar 05 - 11:39 PM okay troll..whatever you say troll.. nice troll and so on and so on. But I'm wondering one thing...Who is Freddie?? Is Freddie an 'in joke'between you and CarolC or you and CarolC and others? If Freddie IS an in-joke, you can play pass the fact that I asked.. which you would do anyway if only a priviledged few are supposed to get this reference. And if he is real, "my bad" for that too.. **** Editorial comment: Being new around here has its disadvantages since some times references are made that seem incomprehensible. I recognize that they are based on folks knowing each other for quite some time. But still.. Maybe if we newbies were supposed to 'get it' you would have explained it.. But it's no big deal.. I'm just sayin... Azizi |
Subject: RE: Goat From: CarolC Date: 15 Mar 05 - 11:56 PM LOL We just make it up as we go along, Azizi. Subject: RE: Goat From: Azizi Date: 15 Mar 05 - 11:57 PM So maybe if I was a more careful reader I would have understood who freddie is.. "troll, and all five (is it five now, troll... and is freddie out of prison yet?) of his alternate personalities.." CarolC's post.15 Mar 05 - 05:52 PM . So freddie is one of troll's alternate personalities..?? I hope he's not Freddie Kruger or like him. But if he is, I just have to plea good intentions and hope that saves me from the Wrath of freddie and/or the Wrath of troll..not to mention having to watch out for his other personalities.. And I just have one personality {I think}. **** Hey, I'm just tryin to understand folks.. Azizi |
Subject: RE: Goat From: Azizi Date: 16 Mar 05 - 12:09 AM CarolC, As you can see you beat me posting your reply by 1 minute. I really appreciate your response. Perhaps I need to work on my sense of humor..I don't do silly well. And then again, perhaps not. Peace, Azizi |
Subject: RE: Goat From: Bunnahabhain Date: 16 Mar 05 - 12:20 AM Freddie has something to do with a story told by chongo chimp.
