Subject: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: stagejester Date: 13 Mar 05 - 08:01 PM Good evening all, Brand New Member. I was tipped off to this site by Sheamus Kennedy and so far, it's been great. I've been a musician for most of my life, but am now looking to expand on my rock/folk performances. My family is from County Kerry and I've been VERY involved over the past few years getting the family together via E-Mail, ect. It's been quite amazing. I'm trying to compoile a set list in order to play the Highland Games that I regularly attend and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on anything new, any MUST play, ect. I'd like to break away from all of the traditional songs that solo, acoustic artists play, to appeal to younger audiences and broaden the scope of entertainment at the games to try and get more butts in the seats!! without offending traditionalists. Wicked Tinkers, Seven Nations and the like have done a great job and I'd like to contribute. Any and all help is MUCH appreciated. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: Sorcha Date: 13 Mar 05 - 08:31 PM What instrument? Trad? Contemporary? What? You want to pay royalties or not? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: Sorcha Date: 13 Mar 05 - 08:34 PM Oh yes, tunes, songs or either/both? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: stagejester Date: 13 Mar 05 - 08:51 PM For guitar mostly, I'm starting ot learn (HA) on my chanter, and I jsut bought a fiddle, but for now, I'll go with what I know. And this is not for recording, it's for live performances, so the publishing fees are done by the games commitee, pubs, ect. They pay an anual to BMI and ASCAP to have live performers/performances. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: SINSULL Date: 13 Mar 05 - 11:23 PM Welcome stagejester. Seamus Kennedy is well loved and respected here so any friend of his... Meantime, Big Mick and Jed Marum might have some suggestions for you. Jed writes a lot of his own material. Good luck with your search and again, welcome. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: SINSULL Date: 13 Mar 05 - 11:26 PM I put "Irish" in the DT and Forum search and got this. Should be enough to get you started. http://supersearch.mudcat.org/@NewSSResults.cfm |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: Tannywheeler Date: 13 Mar 05 - 11:38 PM Proceed with extreeeeeeeme caution, stagejester. If you do anything else in life AT ALL (like breathe, eat, see the sky, etc.) do it BEFORE you come to Mudcat. It frequently happens that some just stop other modes of existence, once on this site. Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: GUEST Date: 14 Mar 05 - 12:37 AM I know several songs that hail from County Kerry (my ancestors are from Tipperary) and yet, since you don't lean toward the traditional at this point, I'll simply invite you to email me back if you would like a few choice songs from your county. Chances are, you already know them, but one is sometimes pleasantly surprised. I'm Deirdre, and you can email me at deirdresongs@sbcglobal.net. I, am a singer and instrumentalist who performs solo, and does my share of Celtic, (while leaning towards other genres) as well. Blessings on all your playing and working! Slainte', Deirdre deirdresongs@sbcglobal.net |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: Big Mick Date: 14 Mar 05 - 12:22 PM Stagejester, I am pleased you are here. If you are any kind of friend at all of Seamus', then I need not warn you to check your rings and watches any time that you have spent time with him. A particular danger signal is when he hauls out the flask and offers ye a wee dram o' the pure drop. This means he is after one of your musical instruments. Send me a personal message (Mudcat faq's will tell you how to use them) and let me know what you are looking for. Chances are I can get you started down the path. Jaysus, Mary and St. Joseph. Another life ruined pursuing a musical career. :^) All the best, Mick |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: GUEST,Paranoid Android Date: 14 Mar 05 - 06:01 PM At the top of this page see "DT Lyrics - Browse". There are thousands of songs listed from A to Z and it is worth the time to go through them. (Nice to see a Kerryman in the gang, I married a Kerrywoman 36 years ago) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: New Member/Irish Performer From: stagejester Date: 15 Mar 05 - 10:53 AM Oh, so I see it's not a 'special' performance that he gives when he is here! LOL I know him though the Highland Games in CA and always look forward to going esp. the ones in the Bay area to see him, John Taylor, and the Monterey bay Pipe Band (one of the pippers, a good friend of mine, Mike Gillin, is probably one of the best pippers I've herd - and that is totally unbiased). Not many entertainers hold my interest for a solid 4 hours, being one myself, but he is such a great entertainer, I not only study, but enjoy immensely! Thanks to all of you who replied and offed your help. I'm just sorry that it took so long for me to register and post!! |
