Truth or nasty rumor that JP II had an Imelda tendency? We want the TRUTH!

Pope John Paul II
A moment to share...

Painful and hard have been the last few weeks and days for Catholics and millions around the world no matter their religious beliefs. As Pope John Paul II faced God and destiny, fond memories come to many. Your Holiness, without a doubt, touched our mundane daily lives and changed many in more ways than one. It only took seeing him once, no matter how close or how far you were; one just couldn't walk away with nothing less than extraordinary feelings. On a Summer day outside Denver... John Paul II at a Rocky Mountain road, he too touched my life.

One day in Denver

It was 1993, as Pro-Life and Pro-Choice protesters faced police, and bursts or riots around the city emerged, some burned tires, others held signs... this, while Pope John Paul II was taking time to reflect, away from the city at a Rocky Mt. park retreat.

It was a beautiful Summer morning, blue skies all around. At a small road along the Rocky Mt. National park, there were only a handful of reporters and cameras. Maybe a pool photographer had been allowed to take pictures of the Pope as he walked the area. The rest of us were parked on the side of the highway. Barriers blocked the way... probably a mile or so from where the Pope was said to be resting, praying. Certainly, I don't remember being able to see a thing.

As the hours went by, I wonder if I really needed to be there. After all, there was no news there to cover. Frankly, I wished I was in downtown Denver where the riots were taking place. I saw reports in one of our satellite trucks... and that reporter's itch to run just wanted me to go get to that story... "What am I doing here? I thought... there's nothing happening...it is not like we can even see the Pope... "

Meanwhile, reports from pool photographers were coming out... pictures of the Pope walking during his retreat, white robe, white tennis shoes and a cane. But we were too far to see a thing.

PHOTOGRAPHIC PROOF!

Of course the photo COULD have been manipulated.....

~Susan

More shocking evidence HERE!

The Ek's have framed photos of their meetings with the Pope placed around their St. Cloud home.

Their daughter, Sue, also met the pope. Sue Ek wrote a book on natural family planning, and presented the pope with a copy. She remembers the pope as an approachable, yet strong, figure who she felt had a direct connection with God. But she was also impressed with a more worldly aspect of the pope.

"I remember seeing his shoes, they were these gorgeous, deep-brown leather Italian shoes and it was just so cool to be right there in front of him, really an honor," she says.

Well Susan, they are the Shoes of the Fisherman, after all.

I rest my case. :)

Good - We've got the shoe count up to two pair now. One pair of white, one pair of brown.

And the count continues......

Whatza big deal with a few pairs of shoes, to a priest-king? Does nobody here have more than one pair of shoes? And if he had fifty, or even a hundred pair of shoes, so bloomin' what?

Which brings us to my all-time favorite Charles Mingus tune title, "The Shoes Of The Fisherman's Wife Are Some Jive-Ass Slippers". Too bad Joni didn't attempt some lyrics for THAT one!

Any takers?

I'm sure he scuffed around the vatican in fuzzy slippers on occasion.

The Pope also has fancy embroidered slippers for truly formal occassions. The embroidery does not, as has been suggested, indicate which is right and which is left, nor does each say "TGIF" for "Toes Go In First."

I just realized that the media seem to have missed a really critical detail in their coverage of the funeral. They had reportage on the degree to which the body was embalmed,("just lightly")with someones observation that he was starting to lose color a little. Very nearly as ghoulish as the satire from...what was it..."The Bear"? that somone linked to, but with no hint of humor. But I didn't hear any reference to what kind of shoes he was buried in. I don't think I'll be able to sleep, or find spiritual peace, without knowing...

Most likely he was buried in the shoes widely reported to be on his feet as he lay in state.

Was "The Bear" Catholic? Did the Pope meet him while shitting in the woods? Was "The Bear" going Popefoot? In fuzzy Pope slippers? When the sign said "BEAR LEFT" did he or the Pope actually go? Was it truly a sign from God? Did "The Bear go Popeback riding?

I'm SO confused.

I don't know about "shoes" but I have it from good authority that he was concerned about "souls."

I'll go away now...

Actually, I just hadn't watched enough of the coverage to catch any mention of his shoes. Might know no such detail was left unbelabored.
