I read this earlier this morning, as syndicated in the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Despite being a flaming so-called liberal (actually, I still prefer to thin of myself as a radical ~ I just can't forget Phil Ochs' "Love Me Love Me Love Me I'm A Liberal"), I often find myself in agreement with George Will. Certainly when he's talkin' baseball, but on other more serious topics as well.

I certainly share his disdain for the crybaby forces in society that he criticizes today. It's ninnies like those he scores points on here that give true progressivism a bad name.

When I got stressed as a child and complained about anything, my old man used to smack me on the "bump of knowledge" with the first knucle of his middle finger and say, "Let's see if that makes you any more smart!" Ya know... it made me think a bit more before I whined like these weenies.

And it's glib little comments like 'don't worry, be happy' that make us with depressive illness want to punch the living daylights out of the person who trots them out with an inane grin and not the slightest bit of understanding of just how offensive they are.

It hurts my poor widdle brain to think that poor widdle Jane couldn't tell her husband where to shove his threesomes.

George Will actually gets paid to write that stuff? Hasn't he got anything important to write about? Surely there's plenty of material out there for him to work with. Poverty, for instance. The working poor, in particular. The working poor with no access to any kind of health care especially.

What a fluff-head. I bet he juggles scarves.

Will seems pretty quick to assume the expertise as a psychologist -- from the sound of him, he could use some anger management training. I happen to specialize in it, and will take him on for five days for $3,000.

The difference between the price of grief counseling for 5 days ($1795) and the anger-management training is that this is a special course, not just any counseling -- it's Southern California anger management training. Additionally, people like George are often resistive to therapy and use their life-situation "solutions" -- fixed ideas, nullifying others, being right loudly, and so on) to place a hurdle between their actual feelings and the training facilitator. There is also some risk which requires insurance when dealing with the kind of deeply buried anger that fuels sarcasm like his.

He'd probably feel much better -- and it would reduce his risk of choking to death on a scarf.

George Will gets paid to belittle those who, for example, don't want their kiddies' teachers to use (horrors!) red ink for correcting papers and other such ninnies for a very good reason ~ guilt by association.

His pretty-much-irrefutable arguments are supposed to imply that any "similar" sympathy for folks like the working poor in America, civilian bombing victimes in Iraq, etc., is just as wrong-headed and ridiculous.
