Subject: Lyr Add: THE CHRISTMAS AMOEBA (Steve Lyon) From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Dec 15 - 08:48 PM This complete album has been uploaded to YouTube as a single file. This song runs from 10:35 to 13:40. (My link should have it correctly positioned.) There are a few Latin or pseudo-Latin words in the last verse that I don't recognize, so I have tried to spell them phonetically. THE CHRISTMAS AMOEBA (Tune: "O Come, All Ye Faithful") As recorded by Steve Lyon on "There's No Place Like Mars" (1976). O come all ye formless Myriad and tiny, You split personalities That multiply Split into millions Serve no useful function With pseudopod mitosis And minuscule neurosis Too simple for psychosis Split and be free Come have a plateful We ordered a crateful We knew you'd be grateful We knew you'd be here Cranberry sauce The recipe was lost And will you say the blessing Before you eat your dressing No, I don't mind confessing I stuffed it myself Yea, Lord, we greet thee Honor and defeat thee Mimic repeat thee The best that we can Glory is God I know that that sounds odd But consider our position Our complex inhibitions That strange erudition The mind of man Christmas amoeba One will fill your stocking If it is watertight And if you don't mind Mind over matter Makes a protozoan Benide(?) citecillia(?) Agape eros philia And if I ask ya, will ya Under the tree |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christmas Amoeba (Steve Lyon) From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Dec 10 - 02:08 AM There's a song called MY CHRISTMAS AMOEBA sung by Mr. Nicky on his album "Mr. Nicky's Science Project." It's available for download at Amazon.com. From a sample: ...is the one thing on my Christmas list. I don't need Santa or mistletoe 'Cause my amoeba makes me go "Ho-ho-ho." I don't need reindeer or jingle bells 'Cause my amoeba is single-celled. On Christmas day I'll feed my amoeba A microscopic candy cane. He'll wrap his pseudopod... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Christmas Amoeba (Steve Lyon) From: GUEST,robomatic Date: 07 May 05 - 02:41 PM Thank y'all. I had achieved some of that info off the web, plus an offer to sell me at a reasonable price ;-) from a used LP connection. Susan, there was a cute little radio station broadcasting from an island in the middle of a lake (they said) north of Anchorage. I had just moved up there and sublet a cheap generic downtown aparment from an oil worker. There was a cheap christmas tree already in and I spent my time getting to know my new job and coworkers and coming home int he dark and cold and tuning in to KABN radio, which had a wide assortment of DJ's. One of them played two intriguing songs, "Christmas Amoeba" being one of them and for the life of me I can't remember hardly anything about it except it was interesting and seemed to be a long winded kind of holiday come-on to a would-be girlfriend. But I may be way off. Another charming song I could barely remember was the song "Cropduster '49" sung by a guy who is spraying grape fields and as he flies he muses over whether an errant flick of the stick or throttle might plant him among his charges in which case he hopes they name a vintage after him! Turns out that cute little song was by none other than Tom Russell and I was able to procure that album, just a couple years ago. In this case I was hoping the wide knowledge of mud'ers might encompass Steve Lyon. It was a longshot, but stranger things have happened. |

Subject: Lyr Req: 'Christmas Amoeba' by Steve Lyon From: robomatic Date: 04 May 05 - 08:41 PM Apparently the album came out of Flying Fish in 1976. I heard the song on the air in Anchorage in Christmas of 1984. If I don't make headway here on finding the lyrics I will probably spring for the record over the web or in the used vinyl dens of Cambridge. Cheers, RoBo |
