Subject: BS: Could it be, no...it might Him!!!:>) From: Alba Date: 11 May 05 - 08:10 PM I received an email from a Friend this afternoon about a Guitar Exhibition at Colby College Museum of Art, in Waterville, Maine. He thought this Event would interest me. It did indeed and turns out for more than one reason..... On the News Station tonight there was a piece on the subject and I saw some of people that are participating. One in particular caught my attention. Clicky below to see why.... Sometimes Fact is stranger than Cyber Fiction. Blessings to all Jude Notice the name of someone who is perfoming on the 12th June: ******BG******* . |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Bill D Date: 11 May 05 - 09:25 PM "Saturday, April 20 at 2 PM Martin Gibson "Multi-Style Guitar Concert" With his Signature Model Stephen King "Cujo" Guitar,Martin will entertain us with his multi-style guitar and songwriting abilities. After his concert, he will gladly answer any questions and his CD's will be available for purchase" LOL...a "Cujo" model guitar just might be appropriate, but I think this is just a fascinating coincidence. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Ebbie Date: 11 May 05 - 09:35 PM Nah. Marvin is bluegrass and country - no fingerpicking for him. He'll probably sue for damages. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Once Famous Date: 11 May 05 - 10:11 PM The guy is not me but I like his name I haven't been to Maine since 1978. Ebbie, I actually do fingerpicking on some songs. FYI I use a National large plastic thumbpick with Grover .22mm metal fingerpicks, same as I use for banjo. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Bobert Date: 11 May 05 - 10:24 PM Don't matter none about finger style pickin' 'er performin' 'er whatever... I'll go against Mudville's Martin Gibson one-on-one in any battle of the pickers contest anywhere... He can't play a lick... All he can do is fire his shots... Big whoop! I've challenged him before to a battle of the pickers with him, after loosin', will say in public that Bush is a jerk and that he is a jerk fir supportin' the moron but the challange goes unanswered.... Hmmmmm? To answer yer question, no, it ain't this version of MG... This version is just a rude little folk singer wantabee... (Hmmmmmmm, Bobert? Ya think this is gonna force MG's hand and make him come out from behind his armor?) Nah... Just like to to give him some of the grief that he gives folks here.... Bobert |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Bobert Date: 11 May 05 - 10:57 PM So, name the place and time and we'll see who's spent the most time with his fingers in their butt.... And, no, I ain't gonna show to paly before the 3 friends you have in suburbs of Chicago.... Make it a neutral site equidistant fir both of us and you an' I can get it on big time.... Then we'll know who's fingers have been stashed away far too long in one's butt.... Yopu wanta rumble, big boy? Then put what you got up.... You loose, then you admit that Bush is a jerk. Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 11 May 05 - 11:23 PM The Cujo guitar is a limited edition Taylor made from a walnut tree that was in the movie version of Cujo. CLICK. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: GUEST Date: 11 May 05 - 11:37 PM Make it Niagra Falls, Bobert... You're sure he's not Canadian? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 May 05 - 06:21 AM I'm confused... is it the guitar or the tree featured in 'Cujo'? I watched the film but I don't remember a guitar... there were lots of trees though.. well, what would you expect in a film with a cute doggie in it?! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: GUEST Date: 12 May 05 - 09:25 AM Bobert's challenge conjures up a scenario sorta like "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Gotta' admit, Martin's "devilish" fer sure, but I suspect he just likes to pull folks' chains for the sheer fun of it, for the most part. That ain't to say he ain't sincere in some of his jibes. And he just might be a fine "gitpicker", for all we know, but Bobert might be pretty darn good, too. I couldn't say 'cause I ain't heard neither of 'em play. Hmmm. A guy named Martin Gibson that play's a Taylor geetar. Is that like one of them there oxymorons? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: GUEST,Bee-dubya-ell Date: 12 May 05 - 09:56 AM Liz, Liz, Liz... The tree was in the movie. I didn't see the movie, so I couldn't say whether or not the tree was a good actor. Taylor regularly makes limited edition guitars from special trees. They made 400 guitars from the wood of the Liberty Tree, a tulip-poplar that stood in Annapolis, Maryland, for more than 400 years. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: GUEST,Wesley S Date: 12 May 05 - 10:50 AM The folks at Taylor also once made a guitar out of a shipping pallet. I'm not a big fan of these "special edition" guitars. One of the worst examples I can think of was the Woody Guthrie Martin guitar that sold for over $3,000. I can't imagine Woody paying that much for any guitar. Don't get me wrong - some of them are very fine guitars - I just feel no need to have anyone's name { other than Collings or Martin } on one of my guitars. To each his own. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: M.Ted Date: 12 May 05 - 11:13 AM Keep in mind that our Martin, according to Martin, is fictitious, so the music he plays isn't real, either-- |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Once Famous Date: 12 May 05 - 11:56 AM I'm real enough in bobert's mind. that's good enough for me to keep him flailing. He can rumble with all of his cheap guitars for all I care. I know he's just an amateur. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Alba Date: 12 May 05 - 12:48 PM Martin you say...."I know he's just an amateur. " That is truly not the case when it comes to Bobert's Musicianship...trust me:>) I just thought it was funny when I saw the Email followed by the bit on TV. I know you post anon MG but there was this Guy talking Guitars with your Muddy Kitty name. It struck me as a funny coincidence and I posted it in humor and did not intend to start a Thread which would turn into post to post combat regarding Musical Skills. Perhaps one Day soon everyone will get to hear each others various talents..perhaps when Max gets the Mudcat Radio Show back online. I look forward to that as there is a WEALTH of Talented People here on the Mudcat and it makes for many excellent evenings of laughter and wonderful Music:>) Blessings to all Jude |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Once Famous Date: 12 May 05 - 12:51 PM but look and see who started it. Your pal, bobert. As usual, I just respond. he's more interested in "battling" with pickers. the better players work together. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: M.Ted Date: 12 May 05 - 02:10 PM Well, say what you will, Martin--I've heard the man play, and the man is good. He also is very generous with his talent, and came up from West Virginia with his guitar and a bunch of his friends to play a benefit for my wife's assault prevention organization--one of the benefits of being a real person is that you can help folks out when they need it-- |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Once Famous Date: 12 May 05 - 02:59 PM True, but he still started it and I think he's sick in the head about a few things. |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: M.Ted Date: 12 May 05 - 03:45 PM And he thinks the same of you--assuming for a moment that the guitar playing business isn't made up, it'd be a real hoot to have a Martin/Bobert guitar showdown--too bad you don't do personal appearances-- |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Bobert Date: 12 May 05 - 09:28 PM Yeah, M Ted, I'd love nuthin more than to duke it out on guitars with Martin "Whatever"... As fir playin' cheapies, Martin... Yer right... My oldest guitar was only $650..... in, ahhhhh, 1968 when I bought a Martin D-18 *new* as my first decent guitar... I still own it and when Martin and I choose where we are gonna have out little showdown, I'll bring it along... I also own a 1936 Dobro tenoe reonator which, even with only 4 strings is prolly enuff guitar to dispatch Martin with but, hey, I'll bring a couple of cheapie Reso's just to finish him off... No brag, just fact.... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: dianavan Date: 12 May 05 - 10:54 PM He started it and he will end it if MG is up to the challenge, which we all know he isn't. Whoever this fourteen year old might be, I'm sure he feels all powerful with all of the attention he gets. ...sick in the head??? |
Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Ron Davies Date: 12 May 05 - 11:07 PM It's pretty evident that "Martin's" claims of guitar prowess deserve as much respect as his innumerable perceptive well-informed and well-reasoned comments on all the other threads on which he has graced us with his presence. |

Subject: RE: BS: Is this Him!!!! From: Bobert Date: 12 May 05 - 11:11 PM Like I have said, 14 year old 'er not, I'll kick his guitar player wantabee into the cheap seats... And he ain't no Jew either... He, 'er she, is nuthin'.... Period Bobert |
