No longer front page material but the 4 Marine's killed yesterday in Iraq makes the "official" death toll 1613... Throw in *private contractors" and the toll is quickly approaching to 2000 mark...

Throw in the tens upons thousands (perhaps over 100,000 depending on whose stroy to believe) of Iragi deaths and the added tens of thousands of seriously wounded one heck of a lot of folks are either dead or disabled...

And there is absolutely no end in sight...

Bobert

Those who take bloodshed to others far away, eventually find their restful slumber shattered closer to home. They will then expect global sympathy. Sorry folks, but if 9/11 were to happen again next week, there would be very little sympathy to share.

I will always have sympathy for the innocents--and in that I include soldiers, civilians. I will never have sympathy for the Neocon bastards who engineered this whole thing.

Innocents don't vote for a war monger. Innocents take to the streets and demonstrate.

Where are all the former peaceniks? Not in Washington, I suppose? In this town here in Kansas, a handfull of folks still get together on Dec. 31st each year to pray for peace. The first one was 20ish yrs ago, & there was a live link with Moscow. My sister-in-law was fortunate to be able to go with one of the first groups which visited Moscow (while I stayed home & had fun with the kids!). When the walls came a tumblin' down, we actually had hope for our planet. How silly of we to think that by the time this "new" millennium came around we might actually have peace. With each new war, some think it is the war to end all wars.
Gone with the flowers, I suppose.

Kaleea - I keep wondering the same thing. Where are the protestors? Where is the will of the people to leave in peace? Do you think people are resigned to war? I also wonder if they are just immune to the suffering of others. Is it because the war in Iraq is so far from home? Is it because Iraq is an Islamic nation? Is it because they are brainwashed into believing it is for security? What is going on?

I think people are more concerned with the price of gas than the lives of the Iraqi people. My faith in humanity is at an all time low.

The above sentence should read, "I think people are more concerned with the price of gas than lives of the Iraqi people or U.S. soldiers."

"Where are all the former peaceniks?"

That is a good question. Another equally as good is "Where are the new ones?" I recall the protests in Vancouver over the economic summit that was held there. Those kids had guts. However, we only know what mainstream media tells us, and sometimes they just don't tell it all.

Maybe part of the apathy is coming from that. Besides, peaceful protest doesn't work anymore.
