In light of all the ludicrous lauding of Shatner's musical accomplishments (?) on a certain recent Mudcat thread, I challenge you all to view some REAL talent: Mr Spock's classic The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins (click the download link; it plays on Windows Media).

So, NOW who's the Musical Lord of the Galaxy - Kirk or Spock? Huh, huh? I'll start us off with

*daylia* - that's a real treasure - I think that he's outdone Billy Boy in the bad taste stakes, although there's not a lot in it!

There have been reruns of the series on the sci-fi channel and I had forgotten how often the overblown ego ended up almost devouring some poor unsuspecting alien female. Doesn't say much for the men of their planets! By comparison Spock was always so..... dignified, until I saw that piece of film.

That is unquestionably the funniest damn music video ever made...bar none. It does not even begin, however, to approach the shuddering majesty of Shatner. Not even close. Shatner has to be taken seriously. You know, upon viewing (or hearing) his songs, that the man is either dangerously insane, and probably capable of anything...or a genius! He transcends mere mediocrity in music, a field in which Nimoy had many determined competitors (like Anne Murray, for one) but few genuine peers.

Now you know why Kirk was Captain and Spock was only First Officer.

No contest.
