Saw the film last night and thought it was fantastic. A real return to form and apart from the odd bit of clunky dialogue, a great Star Wars film. Iain McDairmaid steals the show as he turns Anakin to the dark side of the force.

What do other Catters think?

Spaw took the words right out of my mouth. I was amazed to see that as the actually TV advertisement, though I first saw it on the FOX network so I wasn't totally surprised.

I am an old line Sci Fi fan from way back. Always appreciated the medium and Lucas contributed greatly to the advancement of the medium and I always dug the effects. The Star Wars 'saga' never did much for me. I've tended to root for the Empire 'cause at least they have some sense of structure (and they dress better). Hated those little fuzz balls doing that victory dance at the end of Episode VI.

Episode I was a big disappointment. The story just lay there like a dead fish. The characters were either mis-cast or just plain irritating. And though I don't think I'm that suggestible to PC, I read racist overtones into the movie as I was watching it.

I didn't watch Episode II but I've seen hunks of it shown on TVs for sale in CompUSA and BestBuy and it looks no better.

I learned from Star Wars the importance of an engaging story to me and others, but that in fact with enough loud noises and shiny lights you can divert a multitude.

I've seen Lucas interviewed and he appears to be a neat guy. I'm prepared to believe that III is a big improvement and I'm going to try and see it in the theater.

But I'll probably be rooting for the Sith.

When I was at Armidale Uni doing a 2 week live-in Drama course, the director of our play '12th Night' that we staged on the final night of the course, insisted that we go out as a group and watch 'Star Wars' (1) so that we could do the play with the same 'Heinlein Space Opera Romp' feel regarding pace, etc. (You try learning the script to full performance stage with 10 days of rehearsal!) Wow!

Of course, we have been told that 7, 8, and 9 will not be produced....

I was very engaged by this story and i thought it was very well done . I would warn anyone THINKING of bringing small children that boiling flesh makes for a tough beddy bye . ( therte were 4 year olds in the theater I went to ) .One 12 year old had to leave . .It should be rated R for the violence . Our culture is so over stimulated that no one seems to notice what we are feeding our kids so I probably am alone on this warning . I think Lucus has alot to be proud of with this movie though in putting the whole story to bed ! . A great ending for the Adults who have seen the whole thing unfold. Al the best .. Guy

Saw the film yesterday and I thought it was awfull.

Wooden acting, crap script, and too many scenes of futuristic cities with aerial traffic jams which had they been cut out would have shortened the film to a more comfortable one hour.

Favourite line 'They have even killed the younglings'

Best actor Yoda, an Oscar he should get, at least his perfomance was not rubbery.

Star Bores III would have been a better title.

3-3.5 outa 10... I've seen LOTS worse, but it's more or less exactly what I expected from George Lucas...

I suppose I'd give it a 6 out of ten. Episodes 1 and 2 would get a "4." I haven't been able to get involved in the story line in episodes 1, 2, and 3 - although I think all have been a visual and special-effects treat.

I really liked episodes 4, 5, and 6 - but that was in a galaxy far, far away....

I will add that I for one was not looking forward to the telling of this part of the story and with that said I was glad at the quality of the story line and how it was delivered.
I agree that we are not talking about religion here per say but this story has had an impact on a generation and so having a movie about someone being drawn into the darker side of life is a tough subject. Media does have an inpact on civilazation. I am a little over the top on this subject .For instence I wont look at vampire movies . I dont like filling my world with more nagativity then is already out there to deal with for real.
Back to the Banjo threads . All the best , Guy

I'd give it an 8, and take it in the spirit it was meant. I don't thnik Lucas can write dialogue or direct actors, but he can tell a story and make it entertaining. I love the special effects (but then I work in motion graphics) and with the exception of LOTR Trilogy not many films come close to depicting the epic nature of a universe full of civilisations and technology.

It is made up after all.

Foolstroope - don't be influenced by the naysayers, go and see it in the medium it was intended to be viewed in. Movies on DVD are a pale imitiation of the real thing. You may think it was great or crap, but at least could be sure you saw it as the director intended.

I suspect George Lick-a$$ saw how well Peter Jackson put Lord Of the Rings up on screen... took a look at his own paltry work, and gave up on the whole thing....

I never liked the Star Wars films, but my 9 year old son had to see this. I was pleasantly surprised, this film was very entertaining.

I did not find it too violent, more cartoon violence. My son, who sat through all the Lord of the Ring films when he was even younger, had no problems with it.

The dialogue is not realistic at all, but then again Lucas' was using the old Buck Rogers serials as his models. That makes it fun! (My favorite line - "I don't even know you anymore"! I chuckled out loud at that one!) The actors are superficial, the plot is silly, but the film is still enjoyable.

I still think the best film that Lucas ever made was American Graffiti.
