Subject: RE: BS: Folks We Appreciate. and Why From: Donuel Date: 15 Jun 05 - 08:35 AM conspicuous absense speaks louder than words. Conspicuous absentees take heart, it is probably a matter of birth order or being an only child. Although no will will proclaim a friendship your heart is no doubt in the right place. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folks We Appreciate. and Why From: ranger1 Date: 15 Jun 05 - 09:56 AM Ok, take three, 'cuz the first two times I posted, they got losted! Max, who is currently my hero, big time. Jerry, who starts all these nice threads when things get nasty elsewhere. And who has inspired many deep thoughts and ponderings on stuff in general. Brucie, who takes the time to PM people who are having tough times, and who offers a very nice vitual shoulder and sympathetic ear ((or would that be eye?). Sinsull, Bat Goddess, Curmudgeon, Kendall, Jacqui, Brian and all the others at Sinsull's monthly song circles for being supportive and tolerant of my beginner singing. Joe Offer, for taking the time to track down and e-mail me my forgotten password when my cookie accidently got reset. Deckman, for making the time in his busy schedule to come over and "swap songs" when I was visiting my mom. Azizi, who always has something interesting and frequently thought-provoking to say. All the others from whom I have learned something from, whether they knew it or not. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folks We Appreciate. and Why From: GUEST,John Hardly Date: 15 Jun 05 - 10:14 AM Mark Clark -- who loves music in the same way, and for many of the same reasons I do. He has more zest for life than any 60-year-old I've ever met. The anti-cynic. He has a positive outlook on life and it's infectious. Mary from Kentucky -- actually reads my posts (the poor woman). I'm told that she's NOT "sweet". Alright then, she's a bitchin' babe. She has a positive outlook on life and it's infectious. M Ted -- few have, over the five years I've participated here, given more, or more detailed information on guitar. If anyone has given more it might be... Mooh -- definitely a no-nonsense persona, but always stops short of "curmudgeon". A veritable encyclopedia of stringed instrument knowledge. catspaw -- to me, the personification of the best of mudcat humor, the best of mudcat banter. Has a positive outlook on life and it's infectious. Jeri -- great observations without entanglement. Great sense of humor. I like how obviously musical she seems. Stilly River Sage, Magrath of Harlow, robomatic Debate hard and debate fair. Especially SRS brings something to the discussion -- a good mind and an interesting perspective. DougR Cool head, warm heart. Nobody here has ever faced such open contempt with such grace. Bee-Dubya-Ell As catspaw has tapered his participation here, BWL has put a similarly friendly, warped sense to the humor here. Ebbie -- even if I disagree with her, the right things seem to matter to her. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folks We Appreciate. and Why From: C-flat Date: 15 Jun 05 - 12:01 PM Regardless of the recent fire-fights, this place has a real sense of community, something which is brought home to me whenever I have occassion to correspond with other 'catters or (more rarely) meet up in real life. It's a credit to Max and all those guys in the early days of Mudcats' conception who set the tone and paved the way for others to follow. My hat's off to them and to all you people who continue to make this site the best. I appreciate you all! C-flat. |

Subject: RE: BS: Folks We Appreciate. and Why From: Bill D Date: 16 Jun 05 - 12:55 PM I've been here 9½ years, and I can't fast enough to list all those who I have appreciated ...fortunately, some of you have done a lot of it for me. I don't see much above to object to. I especially appreciate those who keep the music scholarship going without getting into the BS ...Stewie, Malcolm Douglas, Bob Bolton, Gene, Masato...and various others....who did I miss? |

Subject: RE: BS: Folks We Appreciate. and Why From: PoppaGator Date: 16 Jun 05 - 01:05 PM There are just too many likeable folks to enumerate; probably as many as a hundred, maybe even more, who have become recognizable to me in various degrees, and whose comments I look forward to reading ~ and for so many different reasons! Some are scholars, some are comics; some are pros, some amateurs; some are elders who have made their places in folk music history, others are enthusiastic youngsters, etc. etc. etc. Reading down through this long long thread, even as I got near the end, I'd see someone's name for the first time and think "Oh, yeah, right ~ him too!. (Or, her!!). Gave me a bit of perspective on my own fake name only being mentioned once. (Of course, I can gloat at bit, since the one person who thought to give me a nod was none other than the very-well-loved Jerry R.) That said, I do have to jump on the bandwagon and give yet another shout-out to Max. The recent crisis certainly gave me pause, made me realize what an awesome responsibility he has taken on. Of course, the loss of our rambling conversations would be sad, but not earthshaking. Maintenance of the Digital Tradition, however ~ that's something else again: a serious responsibility and a truly important role in current and future world cultural history. Dead serious stuff, and way more responsibility than I would ever assume; my hat is off to Max, big time. |
