Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: freda underhill Date: 20 Jun 05 - 08:37 AM thanks Bobert, for this thread! In Sydney, we will be having our winter solstice. the sun will rise at 7am and set at 4.54pm on Tuesday June 21, our shortest day of the year. We will receive only nine hours and 54 minutes of sunlight - 44 per cent less than the longest day of the year on December 21. so I'm glad when the 22nd comes, for two reasons. 1. the day starts getting longer, and the sunlight will return. 2. its my father's birthday, and although he has been dead for over ten years, this day is very special to me. he was a wonderful man, and a very good father. on Sunday we had the Winter Magic festival in the Blue Mountains, a couple of hours inland from Sydney. This is a celebration of the winter solstice, with music, theatre and a wonderful parade! freda |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: Mooh Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:48 AM And to you! Solstices should be international holidays (yeah, yeah, I know about Christmas and all that), except for musicians who should gig those dates. Happy Solstice all! Peace, Mooh. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: Jeanie Date: 20 Jun 05 - 02:11 PM Oberon: Through the house give glimmering light. By the dead and drowsy fire Every elf and fairy sprite Hop as light as bird from brier, And this ditty after me Sing, and dance it trippingly. Titania: First rehearse your song by rote, To each word a warbling note. Hand in hand with fairy grace Will we sing and bless this place. Robin Goodfellow: If we shadows have offended, Think but this, and all is mended: That you have but slumbered here, While these visions did appear; And this weak and idle theme, Gentles, do not reprehend. If you pardon, we will mend. Give me your hands, if we be friends, And Robin shall restore amends. ***************************** Sweet Dreams, everyone. - jeanie x |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: Bobert Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:27 PM SRS, Well, yeah... Soltice Day fir the P-Vine and me will, ahhhhh, start out with the satalite TV guys hookin' us back up to TV... I know, like who cares??? I sure don't... Then it's off to Harrisonburg to the unfinished furniture store to see if we can buiy three hutch/cabinets that will become a butlers pantry in our kitchen to be in our new-to-us kitchen. I know, like who cares??? But then, ahhhh, fir the soltice festivities... (Like what, Bobert, sit on the porch, drink a couple beers, play a little guitar then come in the house and play on the computer? Like what so festive about that?) Ahhhhh, oh contraire'.... The new keyboard has the letters on the keys unlike the worn out one back in Wes Ginny... That's festive ain't it? (No!...) Nevermind... Just a second Merry Soltice to all... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Jun 05 - 09:56 PM Sounds good to me, Bobert! Especially the beers on the porch and the guitar out (and hopefully the mosquitoes and bears far far away). I'm here alone, waiting for the kiddos to come home on Wednesday. We'll do something once they're back. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: Rustic Rebel Date: 20 Jun 05 - 11:41 PM I forgot to mention earlier- If you get yourselves out and find some fern seeds before midnight, right at midnight, rub the seeds on your eyelids and you'll be able to see the fairies! |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Soltice From: lady penelope Date: 21 Jun 05 - 12:38 AM Sounds painful! Happy Solstice, everyone! Just back from the marshes where we watched the sun rise. Well, due to a large bank of cloud on the horizon what we mainly watched was the bunnies, birds, foxes, really cute baby geeses and bugs. But you get the picture. Bacon butties, wine and the opportunity to be cool for the first time in days - well, it don't get much better really. Must remember the insect repellant next time......... TTFN Lady P. |

Some go to Mt Eden which is an extinct volcano in the centre of the city to see the day in there. The moon was right on full and shedding enough light to see by. Hope y'all had a good one. |
