Contrary to polls and radio talk shows and internet political arguments I believe the overall magority of people have no passion for politics and no Constitutional understanding of what it is about.

It is my observation that most people just treat politics with an expediency and convenience of what clothes they choose to wear to get whatever desired effect they want. Go along to get ahead kind of people.

My brother in law's wife is a perfect example. All her life she has had one sort of middle level corporate management job after another.
Currently she gets more nods from the higher ups when she says I don't like Hillary Clinton at all. There was a time in which she did.

With obvious academic exceptions I think most political opinions in this forum are not from a deeply held personal passion but rather just a fashion that some people wear to show off for the crowd that butters their bread. If they sometimes sound passionate it is because they simply forgot their real motivation.

A catch phrase for these people could be forthcoming. I think sheeple is too harsh and lacks the exact attributes of folks like by brother in law's wife.

I suspect you're right, mostly. A study a year or two ago determined that most young people base their political orientation on that of their parents, either with them or against them. Political opinions seem to be more informed when they arise after one leaves home.

That was my initial reaction, but I think it is just unfortunate phrasing. If the survey found that when questioned about their political stance many young people referred to their parents' views, then I think we can let it stand.

Donuel, I love a lot of your art, and am impressed by the passion that a lot of your political art conveys. But when you go so far as to say that MOST political opinion here is just fashion statement, I feel that you're being unfair and condescending. While there are regulars here in their early 20's or less, all indications are that the majority of the unwashed mudcat masses are considerably older.
I think a high percent of us have lived long enough, and been through the fires enough, to have a pretty stable grasp of what we believe, and why. And I really don't think that one has to be one of us old codgers to get there, either.    Dean.

Since the overwhelming majority of posters here come from your pov, I assume you're haranging about your own co-liberal's lack of passion, and assume we wouldn't be in the soup we're in if only we'd get off of our collective lazy liberal butts and DO something?

sorry I do not mean to seem condescending. Most people here are smarter and play better than me but I do qualify my statement with "obvious academic exceptions". That should include nearly everyone except those who only post "WTF dude"...and maybe a few of them too.

My problem with forums is that I am name blind the way some are color blind. I can keep a scant few names and identities in my head but if I saw you once I could paint you years later.

It seems that politics is boiling down to religious anti constitutionalists against constitutionalists.

Oh, I don't know. You ask which side would most like to re-write the constitution and I think you'd find the left far more willing to dispose of the current one. There's a reason the right wants to appoint judges who will uphold it as written and the left wants judges who will reinterpret it.

Current president not-withstanding (surely you do understand that he is no conservative?)

My phrasing above was unfortunate. I meant that young people without strong personal convictions tend to choose a side on the basis of parental politics and whether they love or hate their parents.
