Subject: Lyr Add: Whitby Week Song From: dick greenhaus Date: 07 Aug 05 - 11:45 AM WHITBY WEEK SONG (Climb Again) (dick greenhaus) Now Whitby is a town set where the river meets the sea One week each year its walls resound to music wild and free You trudge the narrow cobbled streets to get from pub to pub But everywhere is uphill--that's the rub! A thousand hours of music is the organizers' boast And another thousand hours in the hundred pubs that host The playing and the singing that make this place the best Till legs and lungs give out and you must rest. cho: Climb again! Climb again! It matters not the place you go or either where you've been The way is up! So catch your breath, and if the goal you'd win On the cobbled streets of Whitby, climb again! tune: Mary Ellen Carter MORE WORDS WELCOMED |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Whitby Week Song From: Geoff the Duck Date: 07 Aug 05 - 04:03 PM I once had a flat car battery at the end of a Winter week parked near the Royal Hotel. It's amazing how flat Whitby suddenly becomes when you need to roll your car down a hill to bump start it! Quack! Geoff the Duck. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Whitby Week Song (Greenhaus) From: GUEST,Geoff Lawes Date: 09 Aug 05 - 08:12 PM Thanks for the refresh Susan, we have met in the flesh, Dick you and I had conversations over breakfast at the festival campsite a few years ago-but not this year I fear, as I see from other threads that you are going posh this year.Anyway back to the point I saw Dick`s post on his Whitby song while waiting for my washing to finish in the machine at my hotel in Kyoto. I remember the " Rise Again"chorus tune well enough but confess my recall of the main verse tune is a bit vague nevertheless I`ve done my best with the scan problem that this gave me and here is a contribution written on the bullet train to Yokohama. Some folk betray their priciples for money or for fame, For some it`s lust for glory(and) for other`s love`s to blame, But these were not my weaknesses, none of these for me the deal, No!Ballad singing`s my Achilles heal. Lord Bateman,Barbary Ellen and The False Knight On The Road, I can`t resist a gracenote or a Myxolydian mode, D`you think without Child ballads I`d turn down a Whitby pub, For afternoon`s inside the Tory Club. I`m just off to Nikko on another bullet train and I don`t think they will be on-line in the traditional ryokan hotel where we are going to stay so I will see you later at Whitby, Susan and Dick (yes, where else in the world would any sane person be THAT week) Oh yes, and Susan I know it is a losing battle but TRY to keep Dick calm between now and then because I can tell from his recent postings that he is already too over-excited for his own good. |
