Yep, today I reached the dreaded 65. I've been sitting here thinking back to try and fathom out where all those years went. I had so many ambitions, what happened to them?

It only seems like yesterday that I was in drainpipe trousers listening to Bill Haley, Everly Bros, Little Richard, a true revolution in music at that time. Then of course Bob Dylan, and I particularly remember Barry McGuire Eve of Destruction, a song that really meant something to me at the time, but we're still here despite that.

I have had so many ups and downs in my life at times I felt like a yo-yo-yo. What have I achieved?, NOTHING!!.

No mansion, No millions in the bank, still struggling to make ends meet, BUT hang on, I have a wonderful son of 3 years and 10 months, (not to mention a wonderful second wife) who makes it all worthwhile when he sits on my knee, puts his arms around my neck and says "I love you Daddy", and again when he says "Daddy can you play some Beach Boys"., That's my boy.

Thinking about it, who needs material things to be happy, sod 'em all I am happy and glad to be alive. Think of the good times we've had and look forward to the many more to come.

Sorry to bore you all but I just felt the need to somehow do something different today.

Happy Birthday!! The Attitude of Gratitude always wins the day, not the material wealth with no arms for hugging or voice for requests. And, you have done a LOT for other folks and for music, so there!**bg** (Those requests keep paying off. My youngest daughter, now 28, had tears in her eyes the other night as we watched a docu on John Denver. His music was so much a fabric of her younger years.)

I've got a relative, alder than you, who is still *bargaining* with the higher power he believes in for money from his musical efforts. It's not impossible, but he doesn't understand the inspiration comes for the sake of writing it, not for how much it might put in the bank. I hope he figures it out before too much time goes by.

Just one question. Where did you go to find the lady who provided your young'in? I figure any woman who is able to get in a family way would never pick me - they would be too busy laughing at the idea!

I'm 54 and these are thoughts that plague me from time to time too.
But I'm not done yet and neither are you. Old age be buggered. Old compared to who?

Hey I beat you to it....achieved OAP status at Chester Folk Festival in May....what a (4 day) party and what a guest list!
I was not looking forward to it but a whole new (discounted) world has opened up and I've joined a gym and start learning Welsh (half price / Pryce?) this September....

Congratulations and well done. I bet you have achieved lots , probably many friends, and by your attitude I am sure you have made manmy many people laugh. And that in itself is a wonderful achievement. I am running parallel with you, hitting the big 65 this November, I also have 4 young ones (grandchildren) who jump up and tell me how much they love me, a 5 year old, an almost 4 year old, a 2 year old and a little princess of 14 weeks. I also was a big fan of Bill Haley and Little Richard was and still is my favourite even though folk music always took first place. Just think of how many people you know who didn't make it this far and count your blessing every day - I do.
