What is E-bay exactly, I don't know what it is, is it a shop, and if it is I wouldn't like it because you don't know who you are dealing with, they could be con artists for all you know, at least when you buy something from a shop, if it goes wrong or you don't like it you can always take it back, unlike e-bay

Think of it as Exchange and Mart as an online auction house.
So, yes you are right.

Tam:

Go to www.ebay.com. You will find a site where thousands of people from all over the US and UK put up things for auction and sell them tot he higheest bidder -- everything from antimacassars to motor yachts and antique guitars. There is a UK version as well.

While there are occasionally some ripoffs, the vast majority of Ebay transactions get carried out painlessly.

I am with ebay for four years and I can't praise it enough. As a collector it is a great place to obtain items that you would never get elsewhere. My ranting, that is every time you do a deal the buyer or seller leaves feedback on you and the highter the number the more deals you have done. I have 950. And never had trouble with one deal. They have their own bank which you can use for overseas payments called Paypal, it can be a nightmare. No problems with ebay but. Anything you want go get it. I put a couple of inches on around the waist and went up a trouser size. Bought six pairs of Armani jeans on ebay all under 10.00 a pair, not copies all excellent to mint condition. Down to my old size again, so on they will go back for sale.

Well I would rather deal with a shop, however I might go on to it, you never know,

you can find things tons cheaper on eBay, and there are now MILLIONS of users from all over the world, people have feedback ratings... IE, every time someone buys something from someone, you give positive or negative feedback to them... if someone has 5000 feedback that is positive, then they are hardly likely to rip you off whether you are buying or selling with them... if someone has lots of bad feedback, dont deal with them, simple.

i got loads of stuff from eBay, cds that are almost impossible to find cheap, DVDs that are only available in America, and also, real shops also use eBay and usually sell things on there much cheaper.

you cant go wrong with ebay

PayPal is used domestically within the US; it's not just for overseas transactions. It seems to be pretty secure and foolproof.

My wife Peggy and I are just getting started as EBay sellers ~ I started a thread about this a couple of days ago, which I am allowing to die of old age. Peggy's sister has been at it for a while and is having fun and making a little extra money. She actually buys stuff for the express purpose of putitng it up for auction. My favorite story of her exploits: she recently bought a book on EBay for one dollar, read it, put it back up for auction, and got five dollars for it!

Check out specialist forums, particularly those for on-line payment services. You will soon pick up how the scams work from aggrieved traders.

I use it all the time and think it's great. You can get hold of anything and find out the true value of all sorts of things. It's great just to browse and see what's on offer. Also you can save your "searches" so that if a particular item that your after comes up, you will be notified.

Just watch out for scams, I've just had an offer to sell me a Gibson mandolin for £350.00 because the winning bidder pulled out, this happens every time I bid on mandolins.

i was very wary of E-bay for ages but, finding it impossible to buy the kind of jeans I want at a reasonable price, I tried it. I have now become an addict. All my experiences have been good ones. The sellers have been helpful and friendly (you can contact them with questions if you need to) and the stuff I've bought has always arrived amazingly quickly....much faster than normal mail order. I've bought some lovely clothes for as little as £2.50 including postage. You can find things on Ebay that you have been searching for for years.

My advice is check it out, do a search on something you would like. You don't have to bid, just see how it all works.

Love Lynne

Eric.. I'd report that to eBay.

It's great for picking up albums that you missed. In the last couple of weeks I got, the first two Joan Baez albums, an album by the Springfields and the first Joni Mitchell one. Always remember ....postage.

BTW I see that Jimi Hendrix's first album "Are You Experienced?" is up to £820 with four days to go.

Well worth it! I do a lot of book buying and selling there and so far never experienced a bad trade. (but maybe book folk are just that bit more honest :) ) Really good for getting moderately rare stuff without paying astronomical prices and if you miss one now there'll be another along in a day or so.

The only real drawback is being sniped (having someone outbid you at the last minute) but even that doesn't happen often. If you know what your bidding limit is, ebay will handle all the bidding for you.

Get set up with sniper. Go to SNIP PL.They will put a bid in for you with 6 seconds to go. Very cheap service and much better chance of getting item.

Brakn, after every losing bid I make for a mandolin I recieve an offer like this, I'm sick to death of reporting it to eBay, nothing happens.
