Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY From: Zany Mouse Date: 18 Aug 05 - 04:19 PM Les Sullivan told me (at Alchester) that he was having an eye operation which was serious enough that Les was moving back on the boat to look after him. I'd like to know how he is too. Anyone got information? Rhiannon By the way, Guest, can you identify yourself please? |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: GUEST,Mingulay at work Date: 19 Aug 05 - 12:03 PM HELLO WORLD OF MUDCAT. Thank you for your concern one and all. Yes it is true that I have eye problems (vitreous haemorraghing) which means bursting blood vessels at the back of the retina and leaves what can only be described as "shit" floating around and obscuring vision. Thay have tried to stem it with laser treatment but it is difficult to see through the rubbish to direct it accurately, It started in April and for some weeks I was unable to do much, have started to drive again now (daylight only) and can now read and type slowly - very tiring, which is why I have not been on line very much. Not an "access problem" thankfully. I am due to have an operation but do not yet have a date. Once again thanks for your concern Guest (Skipy ?) and others. Will update whenever. TTFN Pete |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 19 Aug 05 - 08:44 PM Good Luck Mate! P.S. I am now committed to using the word mate, due to recent ructions in the Australia Parliament in which the Security Guards were banned from using the word... |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Mingulay Date: 20 Aug 05 - 07:53 AM Thank you Robin MATE. We had a similar problem at work whereby we were told to address ladies as "women". The warped idea being that by saying ladies to one group implied that other groups were not ladies. The idea came from a gay member of our legal team. Anyway, I thought the expression "g'day mate" was enshrined in Oz law. |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: GUEST,Skipy Date: 20 Aug 05 - 01:19 PM Hi Mingulay, whoever you are! Glad you are on the mend, no "Guest" was not me, Skipy - Spain where it is pissing down big league! |

Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 21 Aug 05 - 05:53 AM "Ladies" makes me cringe, except in contexts where men would be "gentlemen". I've had enough go wrong with my eyes to know that the kind of difficulty you are experiencing is exremely frustrating, so I hope you get a result. |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: jacqui.c Date: 21 Aug 05 - 08:05 AM Hope you get the op soon and back to normal on Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Liz the Squeak Date: 21 Aug 05 - 08:21 AM I like being addressed as 'ladies' - gives us the benefit of the doubt! Mingulay - take care and I hope everything goes well. There'll be a bed for you in the Mudcat Recovery ward, which should be open sometime soon, when Festival season is drawing to a close!! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Mingulay Date: 21 Aug 05 - 04:30 PM Just paying a flying visit so no chat I'm afraid. Many, many thanks to all for your kind words and concern. When I'm in the Mudcat Recovery Ward I shall expect a visit from Skipy bearing gifts of alcohol (no slops please) and low sugar comestibles otherwise the good people of Grove will hear the truth about this deviant in their midst. You have been warned Plastic Boy. Must go now and put the eyeball in it's box for the night. Good health all. "Nelson" Mingulay. |

Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Mingulay Date: 22 Aug 05 - 10:51 AM It's 3:30pm UK time, I've taken the week off to fix my shed roof and, as they say on the shipping forecast "precipitation in sight". In fact it's p*****g down. So instead of doing my famous impersonation of a death defying trapeze artiste I'm peering hazily at the 'puter screen not quite believing there's a thread with my name on it. You guys (and gals) are the best!! I note that Google doesn't miss a trick, the footer ads are for eye treatments lol. It's now 3:46. Slow going typing in braille! |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Mooh Date: 22 Aug 05 - 11:11 PM Good luck. Coming from a family with vision difficulties, I truly hope you're on the mend. Peace, Mooh. |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Zany Mouse Date: 23 Aug 05 - 09:40 PM Peter, If it would help, you could always type stuff into Word in a large font and then cut and paste. You could also cut and paste stuff from Mudcat into Word and enlarge the font. Might help. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Mingulay Date: 24 Aug 05 - 03:38 PM Thanks for the info Joy, but that would be stretching my "looking" time beyond its limits. At the mo I can get away with 15/20 minutes on screen reading and/or typing with the normal font before I am driven away or driven mad (I know, I'm mad already). By the way how are your problems going at the moment. Going, I hope. |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Zany Mouse Date: 24 Aug 05 - 03:57 PM Things have always been hopeful regarding my cancer. I'm on a clinical trial which has now completed and I'm playing a waiting game - I should know the results in November/December. Hope all goes well. Rhiannon |
Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Peace Date: 25 Aug 05 - 12:54 AM I wish you the very best, Rhiannon. |

Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Mingulay Date: 13 Sep 05 - 05:29 PM Here's lookin' at ya kids! I now have a date (3rd October) for the operation where the eyeball will be removed, shotblasted, pressure washed, lasered, primed, repainted in red metalflake, lacquered and wax polished. Thanks to the NHS all I have to provide is a pirate eye patch in any colour I like as long as it's black. Parrots are optional I am told. And, no, it is not an over the top tribute to Horatio, Lord Nelson although I hope to be able to see enough to find the rum bottle on the 21st. At least it means I should be fit for Flanders in November hurrah! " little lucy locket -haul 'em away - she's got an empty socket - haul 'em away - she'll keep one eye open for ya" |

Subject: RE: BS: MINGULAY (Mudcat member) From: Gurney Date: 14 Sep 05 - 03:33 AM Do your browsing in Opera, mate. There's a little blue eye gadget at the top which will take the size up to 10 times the original. That is two lines to the screen, which is pretty wearisome in itself. |
