From: open mike

There is a song and cartoon about Monsanto's
Round-Up Ready seeds which are produced to
be immune to the herbicide. scary stuff.
and educational, too.

Sing along with killer beans and dance with evil
corporate scientists in this folkaoke cartoon.

Notes - Round-up Ready Round-up

ROUND-UP READY ROUND-UP
Lyrics by Jonathon Teague & Alison Jenkins, Music by Megan Adam

Look at that flounder leap and bound
Impervious to cold-o
Blame that frost my crops I lost
My farm has to be sold-o
What's the harm in creative farming
It's so up to date-o
Here's my wish - combine that fish
With a ripe tomato

Round-up Ready
You can't kill them crazy beans
Genetically unsteady
C'mon eat your greens
Take that gene and fire it in
Your favourite vegetation
It's got a fin, that ain¹t no sin
It's a new GM creation

Super grains are might neat
No vermin can infest-o
Bioethics cannot beat our
Corporate Manifesto
Round-up Ready
Dig that terminator seed
Farmer Freddy
Screwed by corporate greed

Third World countries,
You'll do fine
Sign here on the dotted line
Soon your nations will be mine
It's the Round-up Ready roundup

Human clones or brainless drones
Some call it exploitation
Try these nifty pig hormones
It's xenotransplantation

Round-up Ready
You can't stop the march of science
Progress is steady
Just like your compliance

Round-up Ready
You can't kill them crazy beans
Genetically unsteady
C'mon eat your greens

Line up on this recording:
Vocals: All
Guitars: Duane Murrin & Sean Morton
5-String Banjo: Ben Rogalsky
Stand-up Bass: Russell Sholberg
Fiddle: Megan Adam
Additional Notes: Evil Biotech

This is from a chat list on Sing Out! magazine...
Anne Feeney answered my call for seed songs, reminding me of "Round Up Ready Round Up," which she has been singing around the country to great effect.

Anne's other links are also worth following. Peter Wilde's song has a
terrific chorus about saving seeds that should be easily adaptable to the anti-patented-seeds cause. The verses will all have to be re-done, however (unless you're singing at a NORML rally). The song recorded by Mike West turns out to be the same one, but New Orleans resident and New Jersey émigré Mike West is certainly worth discovering if you haven't already.

America." Her anthem "Have You Been to Jail for Justice?"

Subject: Lyr Add: MONSANTO'S PROMISE (Don Thompson)
From: Don(Wyziwyg)T
Date: 22 Aug 05 - 09:17 AM

Try this one, written at a time when they were running experiments in open fields near where I live, and were trying to convince us that it coudn't affect the normal crops less than 400 yards away. Have they never heard of pollenation by flying insects?

Don T.

MONSANTO'S PROMISE.
Genetical Modification ©Don Thompson Jan 2000

1). It's a world of high technology, we're living in today,
If you think you understand it, you are crazy,
So leave it to the scientist, is what we're trying to say,
We are working hard so you can all be lazy,
If you're feeling nervous, now the new millennium's in sight,
And the thought of it fills you with trepidation,
Let me tell you that the future's looking rosy, looking bright,
Just be thankful for genetical modification.

2). At Monsanto we've been trying hard, for many, many years,
To bring you all the things for which you're yearning,
It's your benefit we work for, not, as it might appear,
The piles of lovely lolly we'll be earning,
We're extracting all the secrets from the strands of DNA,
And looking for whatever's needing fixing,
With a chromosome, an ovum, and a couple of genes we play,
    Trying out some biological mixing.

3). It's amazing what can happen, when experiments you try,
    For scientific progress isn't easy,
Once we slipped up, and crossed an armadillo with a fly,
And the product made our boffins feel quite queasy,
But we've advanced in leaps and bounds, we've got it sorted now,
Although at times it did get rather hairy,
We're using Cheetah DNA to modify a cow,
The milk is going to the Express Dairy.

4). We feel that there's no limit to the wonders we can work,
If only you consumers give your backing,
Our duties and responsibilities we'll never shirk,
While profit, in our bank accounts, we're stacking,
And you should all be grateful for the effort we expend,
And trust in our concern for your well-being,
For regardless, within reason, of what we have to spend,
We do nearly all the government's decreeing.

5). Let scaremongers rattle on about the dangers of G.M.,
If you're wise, you won't believe a word they're saying,
At Monsanto, we have chemists, who are twice as smart as them,
And believe me, this is not a game we're playing,
We think, we're almost sure; G.M. will not bring harm to you,
But, just in case some seed of doubt still lingers,
The cases of bad side effects, we've found, are very few,
Truly, you can count them on your thirteen fingers.

Coda:- So don't be nervous, now the new Millennium's under way,
You should be having feelings of elation,
Evolution isn't going to turn, and go the other way,
YOU'RE A PRODUCT OF GENETICAL MODIFICATION.

Yeah, that's about what I thought would be happening, at the time of writing.

Nice to know these big corporations don't always win. It's the attitude that p*sses me off.

It doesn't matter that they have ruined his organic crop, but would he please pay them for the privilege.

Makes you want to buy a shotgun and go hunting.
