From: Donuel

...Venezuala, it's cheaper than war!" said TV evangeliest and former Presidential candidate Pat Robertson on his "news" show the 700 club.

whata Christian. The 10 commandments be damned - as long as the alternative is cheaper.

Today all sorts of people in the State Dept and Pentagon including Rumsfeld himself were hade to respond to Pat's declaration of murder.

The official Rumsfeld response is "private citizens say all sorts of things all the time".

.....

Methinks the new Patriot act and Homelandland security statutes actually have a more stringent view of threatening speech, but I suppose those only apply to non Christians.

Should we be surprised. Fron an AP story on today's Yahoo News comes this:
Robertson has made controversial statements in the past. In October 2003, he suggested that the State Department be blown up with a nuclear device. He has also said that feminism encourages women to "kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

CNN was just now using a 4 panel TV screen to preview upcoming stories. One was of Bush speaking out against Sheehan, another was of Barbara Striesand and the last one was of Chavez BUT his head was in the center of the 4 screens which made it appear that he was in the shakey crosshairs of a sniper.

I've been doing cartoons of Robertson for well over 12 years but his own parody of himself is best.

Pat Robertson is a little too far to the right, even for me. This was totally uncalled for and he should publicly apologize for saying such a thing immediately.

It is my observation that those who most loudly profess their Christianity or other faith, are least likely to practise it. If patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel, then religion is the last refuge of the "patriot."

'twould be interesting, indeed, if he were to be charged for inciting terrorism under some clause of the Patriot Act. That would most likely only show how toothless such a clause would probably be in the prosecution of it.

First, under our Patriot act it would be argued that the incitement wasn't against us.

Second, it would probably have to be shown, without reasonable doubt, that anyone was actually incited.

Third, the ACLU would, no doubt, grit their teeth and defend the bastard, knowing full well that the free speech that they wish for themselves cannot reasonably be denied another.

It is interesting that it was just last week that someone here posited the idea that assassination and subtrafuge should be the way of dealing with future terrorism. The concept is catching on. Who knew who all reads mudcat?

And he warned Florida ".. that Orlando might get hit by a hurricane because Disney allowed gays to enter the park and the city allowed flags to be flown." The first hurricane (Bonnie) that hit land after that knocked CBN of the air. God has a sense of humor, I guess.

The arrogance of ignorance knows no bounds.
As a result of Robertson's tirade, private security firms in the southern hemisphere are now facing an upsurge of murdered Americans and kidnapped Americans.

Certainly the US kills leaders as a last resort when we can not control the election results. You can fill in the names of assasinations we sponsored in Viet Nam, Chile, Honduras, Guatamala and of course even the US. but to call for a religious fatwa against democraticly elected leaders does not even serve to help missionaries and corporate US business interests.

What was he thinking? He was probably just repeating what Bush says in private meetings. The marriage of the religious right and war is the business of murder, and business is good.

Wait a minute... how could we all be so blind?
Robertson is right. It is cheaper to chop the chicken heads off whenever a country is opposed to the US. It is cheaper to kill the opponents to Republican rule. It is way cheaper than elections and Diebold vote counters. It is cheaper to kill an offending racial group taking up space in prisons. It is cheaper to kill the poor who amount to nothing more than needless eaters. It is cheaper to kill the King of the Jews.

Its so damn cheap that it is amazing no one has thought of it before.

My God what if a solution to all our problems could be so cheap, so easy and so final?

On Monday, he said: "If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it."

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability." He made the comments during his "The 700 Club" television program.

Yep. We misinterpreted him.

It's getting pretty sad when non-religious, non-christian people find themselves aghast at the non-religious, non-christian hearts and minds and tongues of the religious, christian evangelists.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson has issued an apology for calling for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

"Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement. I spoke in frustration that we should accommodate the man who thinks the U.S. is out to kill him," Robertson's statement said.

Rev. Jesse Jackson told FOX News that an apology is not enough.

"The fact is that his impact is substantially great," said Jackson. "He supports the government, he is a former Republican presidential candidate. ... His statement carries weight."

Robertson's statement acknowledged the controversy that has surrounded his remarks, but said the situation has shed light on an important topic.

"There are many who disagree with my comments, and I respect their opinions. There are others who think that stopping a dictator is the appropriate course of action," he said. "In any event, the incredible publicity surrounding my remarks has focused our government's attention on a growing problem which has been largely ignored."

Robertson explains in the statement the context of the comment and the reasons why he believes Chavez is a dangerous leader saying that he seeks to overthrow democracies, "found common cause with terrorists," and calls Fidel Castro and Saddam Hussein "comrades."

Jackson, who plans to travel to Venezuela, stressed the danger of Robertson's comments especially in light of the downfall of Saddam Hussein.

"It was illegal for us to go into Iraq on the basis of false information, so we have a credibility problem there," he said. "Our government must be very clear that we are against the desire to overthrow another government."

Jackson told FOX News his trip to Venezuela has been in the works for more than two months, and coincides with the anniversary of the March on Washington. He said he will be there to talk to religious leaders about human rights and pro-democracy concepts, "not assassination and coups."

When asked if he's going to Venezuela this weekend to apologize to Chavez, Jackson said, "Oh no, that's not my role."

The televangelist had previously said Wednesday that his comments were "misinterpreted."

"I didn't say 'assassination,'" Robertson clarified during a broadcast of his "The 700 Club" Wednesday morning. "I said our special forces should go 'take him out,' and 'take him out' could be a number of things, including kidnapping."

He blamed The Associated Press for making him seem to advocate the assassination of a foreign leader.

"There are a number of ways to take out a dictator from power besides killing him," Robertson said. "I was misinterpreted by the AP, but that happens all the time."

However, during the original "700 Club" broadcast Monday night, Robertson clearly mentioned assassination.

"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we are trying to assassinate him, we should go ahead and do it," Robertson said Monday. "It's a whole lot easier than starting a war, and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."

Man, that guy is tap-dancing faster than a toad in a skillet.

Gotta tell a true story.

I once saw a snippet of the 700 Club show in which another "man of faith" told Robertson that men react strangely - and predictably- to some things. Like pink. He took a piece of pink cloth and laid it across Robertson's arm, then he took hold of Robertson's arm and clung to it and said, Now try to bend it. You won't be able to.

Sure enough, Pat Robertson tried mightily and couldn't bend his arm. The "man of faith" explained that men are disempowered by the color pink.

So the next time I saw my Robertson-following brother in law, I said, Allen, I want to experiment with you. Let me lay this pink across your arm. OK, now I'm going to keep you from bending your arm. OK, GO!

He bent it.
