Well try and make sure that they all get packed up and shipped back when we've finished with them.

However, after a Getaway weekend and any other hospitality they will have recieved I'm not sure that we can say what sort of state they'll be in.

The Shellbacks were at the Getaway the year before last and from what I heard made rather an impact! This will be Micca's 3rd time at the Getaway so it looks like he's making a habbit of it! Im a Getaway virgin but Im looking forward to it very much!

I know that there were twenty odd ( some of 'em VERY odd) Shellbacks as well as Micca and a couple of other Yookers at the Getaway last year , but have they REALLY thought out the ramifications of the hoard of us who are going to descend this year ? I wonder if The Getaway will survive !

This will be the fourth time in three years that I've been in Washington DC. Each time, when I see the 'Sign up as a Volunteer' sheets on the desks, it makes me feel like signing up and staying for a year. The granite and marble buildings in the public part of the city (it's been years since I was in the residential areas) just glow. I love the architecture, and the heady feel of history.

It's just too bad that the choices we make rule out other choices.

Last night at a volunteer radio fund drive it suddenly occurred to KT and to me that three weeks from now we will already be back from the Getaway- and we haven't even left yet. Made us wonder if it's even worth the trip.

You can download a registration form at http://fsgw.org/photos/2005GetApp.pdf and then print it out and send it in to the address on the bottom with appropriate prepayment.

There's still plenty of room. But we need to let the camp know how many meals to prepare, so it would be good if you can register by October 1. In fact, if you register yourself by October 1, we can pretty well guarantee space for you.

Tents and campers are allowed and welcome at Ramblewood. There's even some flat places to put them. No discount for bringing your own accommmodations, but you get more privacy!

(The camp doesn't give us any discounts for tenters.)

this year, folks who are not sure of the route should make use of Google maps you can get VERY good maps, plus aerial photos that show the basic area. The only real trick is the last 2-3 miles where one 'could' miss a turn and get confused. Charlie Baum puts up pretty good little signs at relevant spots, so a little care should suffice. (Note...it does get DARK in spots at the camp, so it's well to have a decent flashlight/torch and good batteries...especially if you will be arriving AFTER dark on Friday)
