Subject: RE: Getting away to Getaway From: Ebbie Date: 01 Oct 05 - 09:16 PM I once knew a family named 'Sneidly', Chance. Come up with a third name and you'll have an easy to remember law firm. Incidentally, my last name is Bontrager. Try that one on for size. |
Subject: RE: Getting away to Getaway From: Fortunato Date: 01 Oct 05 - 08:56 PM Hey Leadfingers, that's Chateau Shiver is you don't mind! Our branch of the family was too poor, we could only afford one 'R' at the end! "What's in a name, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet..." |
Subject: RE: Getting away to Getaway From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Oct 05 - 08:29 AM Well try and make sure that they all get packed up and shipped back when we've finished with them. However, after a Getaway weekend and any other hospitality they will have recieved I'm not sure that we can say what sort of state they'll be in. |
Subject: RE: Getting away to Getaway From: My guru always said Date: 01 Oct 05 - 05:20 AM Oh I am SO jealous! Maybe next year *sigh* I just know you'll all have a Fantabulous time! Pictures, don't forget we'll need pictures. And is someone recording some of this event?? Oh, and can you sent the UK Catters back when you've finished with them? They're leaving a rather large gap in our civilization while they're all off having fun!! Safe Journeys All! |

Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Ebbie Date: 29 Sep 05 - 02:20 PM I rather wish that all threads dealing with the Getaway were above the line- so that everyone would see them. I agree, Ebbie. The Getaway is very definitely about music and qualifies under the criteria as a music discussion. I am moving this above the line. Mudelf. |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Catherine Jayne Date: 29 Sep 05 - 01:51 PM The Shellbacks were at the Getaway the year before last and from what I heard made rather an impact! This will be Micca's 3rd time at the Getaway so it looks like he's making a habbit of it! Im a Getaway virgin but Im looking forward to it very much! |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Leadfingers Date: 29 Sep 05 - 01:48 PM I know that there were twenty odd ( some of 'em VERY odd) Shellbacks as well as Micca and a couple of other Yookers at the Getaway last year , but have they REALLY thought out the ramifications of the hoard of us who are going to descend this year ? I wonder if The Getaway will survive ! |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Ebbie Date: 29 Sep 05 - 01:01 PM This will be the fourth time in three years that I've been in Washington DC. Each time, when I see the 'Sign up as a Volunteer' sheets on the desks, it makes me feel like signing up and staying for a year. The granite and marble buildings in the public part of the city (it's been years since I was in the residential areas) just glow. I love the architecture, and the heady feel of history. It's just too bad that the choices we make rule out other choices. |

Made us wonder if it's even worth the trip. TIC |

Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Charlie Baum Date: 23 Sep 05 - 12:12 PM Donuel (and anyone else interested)-- You can download a registration form at http://fsgw.org/photos/2005GetApp.pdf and then print it out and send it in to the address on the bottom with appropriate prepayment. There's still plenty of room. But we need to let the camp know how many meals to prepare, so it would be good if you can register by October 1. In fact, if you register yourself by October 1, we can pretty well guarantee space for you. --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Donuel Date: 23 Sep 05 - 12:45 AM Maam you're going to have to prove these bottled liquids pose no danger to the USA. We need you to drink each one. ....... Cool a registration form. A registration form? I don't need no stinkin registration form! or maybe I do, I don't know. Does one have to register for a registration form? |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Susan A-R Date: 22 Sep 05 - 10:36 PM I can just see it Now Ma'am, we know this is a weapon of mass destruction, we're just not sure how it works Could you demonstrate . . |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Mrs.Duck Date: 22 Sep 05 - 06:54 PM Well we would bring the bass kazoo but not sure it would make it through customs |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Dani Date: 22 Sep 05 - 02:52 PM Donuel, do you have to decide among them? I'm not sure I could do that..... If it helps, I'm bringing two daughters (one who is semi-interested, and one not at all) plenty of whiskey, my ever-ready kazoo, and with luck, my new bodhran. Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Charlie Baum Date: 22 Sep 05 - 02:48 PM Donuel (and others)-- Tents and campers are allowed and welcome at Ramblewood. There's even some flat places to put them. No discount for bringing your own accommmodations, but you get more privacy! (The camp doesn't give us any discounts for tenters.) --Charlie Baum |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: John MacKenzie Date: 22 Sep 05 - 11:35 AM Well a nice warm woman might be called for if it gets too cold, nothing mucky you know just mutual warmth. [Gawd I can hear myself saying that to some nubile wench 40 years ago!] Giok ¦¬] |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Bill D Date: 22 Sep 05 - 11:23 AM tents ARE allowed at this camp...see the registration form for more details. There is an area where a couple people have pitched tents before. |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Donuel Date: 22 Sep 05 - 10:52 AM I can bring a cello and some beverages and maybe a son or two. What would be best to bring that would be most beneficial? Are tents etc. allowed? |

Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Pauline L Date: 21 Sep 05 - 12:10 AM I'll be happy to see you there next year, Susan, if not somewhere else before then. A Getaway just isn't a Getaway without you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Susan A-R Date: 20 Sep 05 - 11:44 PM BOTHER! This has been the summer of separating from spouse, and the economics for getting there just don't work. Next year I'll be there. Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Bill D Date: 20 Sep 05 - 06:54 PM this year, folks who are not sure of the route should make use of Google maps you can get VERY good maps, plus aerial photos that show the basic area. The only real trick is the last 2-3 miles where one 'could' miss a turn and get confused. Charlie Baum puts up pretty good little signs at relevant spots, so a little care should suffice. (Note...it does get DARK in spots at the camp, so it's well to have a decent flashlight/torch and good batteries...especially if you will be arriving AFTER dark on Friday) |
Subject: RE: BS: Getting away to Getaway From: Dani Date: 20 Sep 05 - 05:57 PM Directions to Ramblewood?! It's a breeze. Just don't try to do it in the dark for the first time ;) Dani |
