Bill D,
it took me a while to understand about the translation program. Thanks for that hint. Joe could surely make a much better translation, at least he wouldn't try to tranlate my last name and the name of my home town.

Wolf-gait (or Wolf-corridor or...?)

Wolfgang...Alta Vista's translation service does at least allow people to get some idea of what in on a page in another language, but it will be a long time before it can deal with the subtle aspects...I am embasassed that so few Americans really learn another language as well as You and Skarpi and Takeo etc. have learned English...my 2 years of college German have really faded...

Although I didn't add this to 'what Mudcatters do', I, like Wolfgang, spend a great amount of time reading and surfing the net on the trail of pseudoscience, fraud, cults, quackery, and superstition. I have a webpage on fraud and cults that is linked to CSICOP and other sources of information on the subject.

Truth is mandatory, in my book.

I'm 5'6", a bit softer and rounder than I'd like, (but I've recently started running again, so wish me well) with long hair loosely up or free-flowing, as I please. The color of my hair is a tougher question; a long summer spent 100% outdoors made it very blond, but winter darkness is causing darker brown to show at the top. Almond-shaped green eyes, pleasant round face featuring one left-side dimple when I smile. Most days I dress in jeans & v-neck sweaters or T-shirts, but I do have a weakness for fine garb and silly features like huge Dingo boots and strange hats.

OK, so curiosity finally got the better of me, and I went and looked at all those great photographs. WOW, there are some great human bein's out there in Mudcat land. I note however that the lack of a Joe Offer photo must cause some further suspicion that he is some type of cyber creation.

For my part, I'm 6 feet tall, about 200 lbs and once had auburn hair. Most of the hair is still there but it's closer to brown these days with nature's condiments sprinkled throughout. My full beard is reminiscent of Art's pictures, but thankfully for him that's where the similarity ends. Shorts and a polo shirt are my favoured dress, and water is my favourite drink since I gave up the booze a couple of years ago. Regards
John

Depending upon which ID you look at, I range between 5'9 and 5'11. I feel shorter some days. Coffee-grounds-in-the-dishwater blonde (I simply refuse to say, "brown") with blue eyes. The hair is rapidly becoming mixed with a bit of gray. The beard, which I gave up a few years ago was already fairly gray. I am probably about 30 pounds overweight; but am working on reducing my girth so that I don't have such a hard time lugging my body up the hillsides which I so enjoy hiking. Also, my hope is that eventually my canoe won't sit quite so low in the water. I have a "throwaway" guitar which sometimes makes canoe trips with me. No, I don't use it as a spare paddle! I am usually found wearing hiking boots, jeans, and colorful pocket-teeshirts. The pocket thing dates back to my many years of cigarette addiction which ended twenty years ago. But for some reason the pocket is still important to me - sometimes I suppose I use it to hold my glasses which I now wear almost all of the time. Handsome would be a welcome adjective but "well preserved" is what I hear far more often. You could say the same thing about a pickle. I am so average in general appearance that I can easily slip into a crowd and disappear. On the other hand, I probably look like someone you once knew. Often I have strangers come up to me and call me by someone else's name. Sometimes I play along with it ;-)

Was Joe the tall, well-shaped lighthouse or that classy window shot? Surely he couldn't be that relatively normal-looking (albeit nice-)man! We all know that no normal mortal could do so much for so many. We figured he was a computer or, at least, some kind of collective!

Thanks, though!

Ah, my dear Alison, the only part of me that has been pierced is my heart - that happened when I found out you were married, already spoken for.
I would like to make it perfectly clear that I, on the other hand, am NOT married - yet. Maybe soon. One never knows....
But woman who refers to herself as May Best-Offer and says she is my wife is an imposter. She may be perfectly charming, but I haven't met her yet. Before I marry a woman, I prefer to be properly introduced. Sorry, May, no offense intended.

You know that shot of Joe with the reflection in the mirror almost had me fooled, until I recalled an episode of the X-files. The reflection is certainly not part of the same head - I've had the staff at the forensic lab check it out. I don't know why there is a conspiracy in the Mudcat, but well done with the Mr-Nice-Guy-I'm-No-Threat image though.

The other thing is, this will totally blow my Susan Saradon/Margaret Rutherford image, which I thought was very cool, and that you all came up with on the "Mudcat - the Book/Movie" thread.

No need to post a photo of me - look at a photo of Alan of Oz and mentally increase head height by 20% and reduce face width by 10% and you've got it. My wife says I'm a bean head and my big sister still calls me "Jonathan Bean" once in a while.

Hi all,

I've just set up a dinky little "home page" and if you go there you can see what I look like.

http://www.geocities.com/Wellesley/Gazebo/8475/

Helen

PS: A "dinky" in Oz language is a little 3-wheeler bike (all right, so it's a trike, not a bike) for toddlers to learn to ride on. I believe the word dinky comes from the Scots language and means "small" (so it was a tautology/unnecessary repetition saying "dinky little").

PS2: The word "dinky" does not have any relationship to the Oz words "dinkum", "fair dinkum", "fair dink" or "dinky-di", which relate to the meaning of "true/truly" and the great Oz tradition of being who you say you are, being trustworthy and sincere, etc, etc.

I did think about giving you all a description of me - but that would have forced me to lie and as we all know, lying is a sin - and it isn't even one of my favourites! So, whatever you want to imagine -that's fine by me! Cheers

McMusic - I remember it well,

Team 1: Red Rover, Red Rover, who do you call over ?

Team 2: We call over

The called person leaves Team1 and runs to Team2 who are standing in a line holding hands. Called person charges and tries to break through line - ususally selecting the weakest link in the chain of people. If they succeed in breaking through they can go back to Team1. If not then they must join Team2.

Hi!

Just under 6 feet and a relatively slim 155 lbs. but somewhat top heavy with much of the weight being located above the shoulders. Moustache since 21. Hair still attached and somewhere between brown and grey depending on what area one focuses. Comfortable in anything from fishing waders to dungarees to slacks to suits.

Recent photo with Bob Conroy (the object on the left) and The Brooklyn Bridge (the object in the background) is viewable at Dan Milner & Bob Conroy

Now back to folk songs!

All the best,

1.91 m, 77 kg (for the non-metric that's tall and skinny), a bit stooped, brown hair turning gray and starting to retreat, same side-parted haircut that my mom used to give me in 1967, clean-shaven, face suggesting I'm more pleasant than I am, dressed in jeans (or chinos) and shirts with collars at work, jeans and t-shirts maybe with a sweatshirt on weekends.

Since there is now a looming chance that some of us will actually encounter one another, I thought I would revive this thread. By the way, I caught myself in a kind of reverie, reading and re-reading Harpgirls description.

Also, don't miss Frank in the swamps' classic.

If you click Joe Offers pic, it gets very confusing. He looks like either Donny Wahlberg or Chow Yun Fat, far's I can tell.

As for me, I'm 5'8", 175 lbs., blond beard and rather long hair with some new white ones that have started appearing the last year. Will turn (arg) 50 yrs old this October. Have been told I bear a resemblance to Kiefer Sutherland . Could have been worse. Could have been Donald.

Can't wait for Catspaw's description. Also Katlaughing, jo,Ferarra, etc.

Erica: Mt. Holy Smokes, eh?***smile*** We spent three years in Noho and my son's sig. other is a Smithie grad. We all really loved being there, but I was in Noho last June and it looked and seemed much more upscale yuppified than when we last were there in 1993 to visit. we lived there from 1984-1987, on School Street, just around the corner, kinda, from The Academy of Music. How long have you been at Mt. Holyoke?

Well, Lonesome, I haven't studied how to link anything into here, and don't want to paste a picture, cause it takes up too much of Max's program, I bet, so here's partial description:

Long hair, usually in a no nonsense braid, wind tangles it and I can't stand it flying in my face, used to be so red, the kids at school called me Woody woodpecker when it was in a ponytail; now it's got a LOT of white streaks, which friends tell me they'd pay a lot of money to duplicate, because they are in the right places: my bangs mostly.

Green eyes with crinkly smile lines, glasses, always wear loose cotton and Birks.

Some would call me vertically challenged at 5'2"; my sister says dynamite comes in small packages! When I got spayed I went up a few sizes. As an incentive to lose weight, my heart with the leaky valve decided it needed more O2, so...since being tethered to a concentrator or bottles of air, which by the way is the latest rage in Hollywood, I've found a good and safe way to drop. Right now, I am a good rendition of a Rubens woman or the painting over the bar in an old saloon. By this summer, at about 60lbs less, I'll be a bit "less" than either of those.

Oh, and people tell me I have a great smile and I really DO laugh a lot. When I figure out how to link, I might grace ya'll with my mug, ready or not!

kat

well, since you asked, seven foot tall, chest like a horse. Wait a minute, that's not my chest or if it is it has slid downhill some.

(Truth)Six foot nothing. 183 cm. Can;'t find the bathroom scales but I have definitely lost some of the spare tire since I gave up the suds in October--somewhere a little north of 175 lb. Hair brown with quite a bit of grey influence coming in at the sides. Cut it myself cause I'm too damn cheap, live too far from town and don't trust any other family member with the scissors. Only other defense is it looks worse when I _don't_ cut it. Obligatory folkie beard.

well, rick, sorry, but there were no descending ufo's during that shot...i'm sure the rest of the roll would have been a lot more interesting if there had been, though...instead, we had clever ideas such as this one where everyone posed for their own camera or something like that. sometimes 24 pictures is a stretch.

and m'loveli katlaughing, i love your name. i bet it suits you well. i've only been at mt holyoke a short while as i transferred there this fall--and i haven't witnessed the yuppification of noho, but imagine that i'd like it more before it occurred. still a sweet place, though.
oh--and for the link, if you look up at songbob's entry from 12-jan-99, there's a little demo-link that might help...we want to see this smile!
i'm glad that someone else was having the aptly named issues with misFortune city...excited to see those pictures i was so cruelly barred from earlier.

erica---Glad you passed that explanation on to Rick 'cause you look wonderful but, uh, yeah...........that's one of the screwier shots I've ever seen! Is the one on the left thinking or wiping drool from her mouth? The buzz cut in back...a guy or a Sinead wannabe? The girl to your left looks to be doing a nostril inspection of Paul Bunyan. And lemme' guess, the photographer is a student that wins the praise of every artsy-fartsy type within a 21 mile radius.

What do I look like...LEJ old buddy, you say we all might eventually meet and so you refreshed this stupid thread. I avoided this turkey before and much as I love ya' there bro...I'm gonna' pass on it now.

OK catspaw if that's the way you want it. I'm gonna keep on picturing you with red hair and a red beard, probably freckles, perched on your front porch with the Computer sittin on top of the washin machine, you're wearin yer Mudcat t-shirt, overalls, and a big grin. You are tall and lanky, and I bet your wife teases you about yer paunch. You live on a ridge in the hills, and yer kids throw dirt clods at the neighbor's dog. You have a jacuzzi on the back porch, for some reason, and your old Takamine is leanin against the refrigerator, which contains a 12 pack of light beer and some turkey baloney which you like to eat right out of the package. You also would really enjoy a well-marbeled New York Strip, but your wife is against it.
