2005 is a year of disasters so our halloween decorations this year reflect the horror of it all.

Ah, here are all those pictures I was telling John about. I did ask for pictures on another thread where you mentioned the decorations, Donuel. Didn't realise that I didn't post here at the time. It may not be to everyone's taste, but it's very clever stuff. I like it.

I don't think I've seen decorations for Halloween anywhere here in Oz. It isn't such a big thing here.

Some of the 'el cheapo warehouses' - Crazy Clark, et. al., bring in leftovers from the US - this year they have wigs, hats, kids cossies, etc. Once picked up some battery powered window thingies like pumpkins, etc. This time of year the days are getting longer - totally different emotional response to the North Hemisphere.

Big thing here is 'XMAS Lights Comps' - some people spend thousands of dollars...

Also 'Xmas in July' is slowly catching on in some parts that have cooler weather in July.

Ah yes, the 'XMAS Lights Comps'! They are getting bigger and better every year. There are pockets of intense competition in certain areas of Sydney, and I seem to be living in one of them. Most of the houses in my block go in for the elaborate lights and decorations - we even have people cruising by slowly in their cars to have a look!

I was amazed last week to see three houses already lit up, but I don't suppose I should be TOO amazed, since they have been selling Christmas stuff in the shops since early October, and I must admit to having already bought another set of icicle lights to replace a cheap and nasty set which failed last year. Now that Daylight Saving is here, and we can spend warm summer evenings sitting outside, I've been having thoughts of dragging out last year's lights pretty soon to see what's working.

We put on a pretty good showing last year - not as good as some, but presentable. No doubt we'll add a few more touches, but I draw the line at having Santa and his sleigh on the roof! Anyway, I don't have thousands to spend. If I did, I'd rather spend it on a trip - I'd love to go to the Getaway!

Donuel-

Not really as scary as reality these last few months but you probably agree!

We didn't get any flood victims trick or treating this year, or even any senior citizens looking for a gallon of fuel oil, nor an ex-white house staffer looking for executive clemency.

Cheerily,
Charley Ignoble
