Scan it and erase the 'No' and just add 'Blues' or 'Guitar' or whatever. Smoking Blues or Smoking Guitar. If you like the pic, the editing is simple. Or you can erase the 'Smoking' and add 'neo-cons'. No neocons. Think something up. Don't let the sign stop you from using a photo of yourself that you actually like.

Donuel,

I kinda already promised to let Cluin do it then other folks chipped in wantin' to help so I been sayin' that it might be a collective effort since there's front and back cover art and then there's the innards, too...

I'm still waitin' for the mixed and mastered "master" to finalize which songs I'm goina use... I prolly need to get a decent pic, ou know thru one of them filter things that puts thicker and darker hair on my head...

KT emailed me a pic that she took of me at the Getaway mini-cincert that ain't half bad bit there's a big "No Smoking" sign behind me that kinda detracts from the piccure and, no, I don't want to name the CD "No Smoking"...

Bobert,
I've done half a dozen or so. I have examples for Blue note and a lot of political parodies.

My pay is requiring my real name be on the cover.
PM me with all required info, so that a graphic will be both attractive and meaningful.

Martin, don't slip downward.

The one thing, maybe two, I see wrong here is the denigrating of anothers style and ability with regard to music. I may be missing the point but from where I sit, that is what is going on here. How can anyone judge anothers' ability w/o hearing that person.

And 6, how can a 50 year old song (Martins') be used as a weapon or defense for that matter. That was a very popular song in its' time and there are many who enjoy that style today. The words were easy, simple, cutesy and enjoyed by many teens at high school proms across the country. It even suggested a 'higher power' when it wasn't a near crime to do that.

While a lot of my life was influenced by John Coltrane et.al., I listened to Dean Martin too. Again, maybe I am simply missing the point of all this.

blah, blah, blah bobert. Authentic country blues players, my ass. I'll bet one yells "suey!" while he's boning you. You and Robert Johnson.

I'm sure your tunes are:

Blues in A
Blues in E
Blues in A with a capo
Blues in A, except slower
Blues in E, even slower

Yawn. Wake me when you want some real entertainment.

Yeah, sIx, I can do that song... Might get a little Bobertizin' but there ain't a song I can't do... Oh, you want it to sound like "exactly" like the original??? Firget it. Let Martin "cover-boy" have it...

My stuff is the real deal... No copyin' here...

Too bad, Marty, that you don't want to do this little "rumble" 'cause after you hear me yer gonna wanta learn how to play the blues...

Yeah, I spent 35 years playin' yer dribble and then 'bout 10 years ago I got myself hooked up with some autrhentic country blues players and the rest is history... Once you find the best, you leave the rest....

I'm sure that you are adaqute fir the limited stuff you do but6 if you wake up one mornin' thinkin' that what you need is a good butt whup on stage, let me know...

I deliver...

Actually 6, it was Johnny Cash's version that made me remember the original. Dean Martin was for a long time an under-rated singer. Since his death, his free-spirited vituosity has found him some new popularity.

bobert, I think the blues suck and is boring, repiticious 3 chord music that variates little from song to song and from chord progression vaiance. Besides that, it's depressing. I have played it and it is one big yawn. I have no intention of lowering myself to playing with you or interest at all in any battle of the bands.

Like I said, your challange is amateurish, and puts you on a level of unprofessional musicianship that I learned a long time ago to stay away from. Why don't your go off and sing about why you have the blues because your baby left you because she can't stand how you can't satisfy her and never could.

No. Not on the Internet.

I have a 4 song CD demo I did in a studio about 6 months ago that I use for booking gigs as part of my press kit. I keep this CD guarded, as I had mentioned I do not do original songs and these 4 songs were written by others. I do not sell this CD as I am conscious of copyright law and use the recordings for strictly promotional reasons.

But thanks for your interest. I really could give a whore's outer labia what you think of my politics. As I have mentioned many times, Mudcat is basically for me a playground to fuck around in and I prefer to do so incognito. However, I will pit my seriousness about music and my passion and knowledge of it with just about anyone here.

Actually Jonny Cash's version is more appealing ... but I admit, I never heard of Dean Martin's version, but will certainly will check it out.

Come on Martin .. when it comes to Dean ya can't help but laff .... especially with this this album cover .... hey Bobert, ya can do something like this with yours!

Yer the one who didn't have the balls to show up with yer stuff in the battle of the folkies, Marty, not me... I was there and yer lucky you weren't 'er you'd have a bag over yer head right now...

And, BTW, just fir the record, the offer is still on the table... Only rules is that it is a public venue and not yer mama's kitchen...

It would be worth the drive to shut yer dumbass self up...

And, fir the record, Part B, what makes you think you have to be either balck or old to play blues??? That is one ignorant statement on yer part!!! You obviously know nuthin' about the history of the blues 'er you wouldn't make such an ignorant statement... No, it's beyond ignorant... It's downright bigoted!!!

Tell ya what, Marty. You are a prime example that a little learnin' is a dangerous thing and you continue to offer up additional evidence, as if anyone needed it...

OK, morons, especially you dianavan and bobert:

I play bluegrass periodically with a group that does straight ahead bluegrass and something we call "swing-grass" and also at some jam sessions.

Lately I have been performing much more frequently by myself as a solo act in clubs and other decent venues.

Obviously your knowledge of folk music is extremely limited. The Dean Martin standard I do in my repertoire is "Memories Are Made of This" which written by folk performer Terry Gilkyson who backed Martin on the original 1956 hit with his folk group The Easy Riders. The song is about as 1950s folkie as it gets and I am sure much more knowledable musicologists than you two will agree. This is the only song by Dean Martin I do and quite frankly, it goes over quite well.

So laugh all you want. It is I who is doing the laughing at the amateurish types like yourself. Your not old and black, bobert and your music I am sure is about as phony as what you emulate to be.

No I haven't Bobert ... would certainly like to ... can introduce some of their stuff to the boys on our Monday nite bluegrass jam.

Amore ... can hear it now with a good fiddle intro ... the mandolin would just blend in fine with the 'Vita Bella' line .. all along that doghouse base keepin the back beat.

I thought you played bluegrass. I have searched Chicago's bluegrass venues and can't seem to find you. Now you say you play country and folk. Maybe you're just an all round musician who can play anything on guitar and banjo. Do you play solo or with a group?

I'd love to hear you engage an audience and see you draw them in.

Do you perform at weddings and bar mitzvahs, too?

bobert, my set list includes zero originals, as I have no intention of boring my audience with a lot of navel gazing folkie style pablum.

What I do play is a lot of country and a lot of folk, from standards written by Tom Paxton to Cowboy Jack Clement. From a standard such as Abilene to the San Francisco Bay Blues. From Rockabilly to a Dean Martin standard.

It's about engaging an audience and drawing them in. It's about hootenanies from the 1960s to WSM radio, the country music you grew up with.

Set lists change and set lists should constantly evolve. I do not sing lyrics like: "I got the old black man blues, because I am old and black."

So is this design contest still open?

Cluin's art is indeed gorgeous, so no denigration is intended, and if you've already picked him and are in hot-n-heavy negotiations, super - I'll just shimmy on back to the music threads.

But if you are still looking for a designer who can do the whole schmool - from the correct font choice, colouration, image, layout, lyrics, and CD image.... (bats lashes at Bobert and winks at Cluin in passing) please do consider another Canuck - moi.

I'll gladly email some examples of my cover designs if you care to provide a contact address, sir! And if you've got the art picked out but still could use a hand with the layout, I'm at your service as well.

Regards from the bard,
Judith

Kinda like "The Three Faces of Eve" don't you think?

Bobert: don't worry about the 3-chord blues songs. I do songs with only 2 chords or sometimes 1.
