From: Ep' Eric

Despite the fog on Monday night about 20
stalwarts battled through to what turned out to be a memorable
night. The John Arbon Band was the attraction who turned out to be everything a discerning folk crowd could want, with a lively
programme which included something for everyone.

Amongst the many jigs and reels we heard Blind Mary,Galway Girl, a very haunting TITANIC and a fine tune written by John's father.
Steve Hindley sang well with Blarny Roses Grow, Whiskey on a Sunday,
Clare to Here, Muisher Durkin and Be a Rambling Rover.
Colin Greaves added a fine accompaniment on whistle ( his pipes
being restored)as did Julia ,Johns sister on melodean.

The regulars too played well with a difficult arrangement played on guitar of the Entertainer by Keith Mason, Three inspiring accordian
solos by John Johnson and Eric sang Venezuela and Farewell to Fiunery.

We were fortuneate on such a foul night to be visited by two extremely fine professional singers who had driven a fair distance to be with us. They just introduced themselves as John and John and proceeded to enthrall us with two well chosen solos and a hearty chorus song sung together. They left with a good impression of Ep'yh Folk and vowed to return on a quieter night to give us further songs
from their obviously vast repertoire.
We look forward to that day with eagre anticipation.

What had started out with bleak prospects, due to the weather, had turned out to be an excellent night

Next Meeting will be a singaround, Monday December 5th. at 8.00pm.
                                  Old School Inn, Epworth.

Come N' Listen    Come N' Sing   Come N' Play.

I endorse all Ep'Eric has said, a very good night. Hope those with 'sick notes' are better for next session, we missed you.

Then that bold mameluke drew his trusty skibook
With a cry of Allah akBar
And with murderous intent, he ferociously went
                   For Ivan Skavinsk skavar

They parried and thrust, they sidestepped and cussed,
Of blood they spilled a great part
The philologist blokes, who seldom crack jokes,
Said hash was first made on that spot

They fought all that night neath the pale yeellow moon.
the din it was heard from afar
and huge multitudes came for great was the fame
of Abdul and Ivan Skivar.

Epworth is in North Lincolnshire I think, midway between Scunthopre and Gainsborough or 20 miles south of Rawcliffe Bridge which is 6 miles south west of Goole!
and it has some good singers nights but a long way to come from St. Albans - however I'm sure you would be made welcome.

Well I am due to visit Market Rasen in the distant future.

Is that nearby? I vaguely recall Gainsboro being associated with M R

Any way its cold now so I'll stay closer to home, so consider yourselves let off for the time being

Good luck with the club.

You'r miles out Breezy.

Think in terms of Doncaster and you'll be nearer the mark.
   About 20 miles away.
Come along and you'll be made most welcome
