Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 06 Dec 05 - 07:15 PM DID YOU KNOW?. That Ep'th Folk was 18 years old, on Halloween this year. |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 07 Dec 05 - 07:08 PM Refresh |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 08 Dec 05 - 02:57 PM DID YOU KNOW?. Epworth was the home of John Wesley. |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Georgiansilver Date: 08 Dec 05 - 05:20 PM Yes and it was quite an experience visiting the Wesley House with some of my family last year. The tour of the house is really interesting and some of the antiques took my fancy. Quite a family history. Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 09 Dec 05 - 03:28 PM Dear Mike, Glad you enjoyed the antiques at the rectory. It was my pleasure as an antique restorer to repair many of them a number of years ago. In particular, the chair which was Samuel Wesley's, his father. This was in terrible condition so I took it completely apart and restored it so that visitors could sit in it.I don'tknow if they are allowed to now |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 10 Dec 05 - 02:54 PM Refresh. DID YOU KNOW?. Ian Botham the England cricketer had his home in Epworth around 1987. |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Georgiansilver Date: 10 Dec 05 - 03:04 PM I'm bowled over by that Eric! |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Travelling Audience Date: 11 Dec 05 - 03:41 AM Did you meet "Geoffrey" the ghost at Wesley's house? |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 11 Dec 05 - 05:38 PM No, I didn't encounter "Geoffrey" when I was there, T.A. but I did add something to the history of the rectory. Did they tell you the story of the wardrobe which was in Geoffreys room and purported to have belonged to Samuel Wesley?. This was a myth and I proved it to them. I'll tell you the story when next I see you. |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Big Al Whittle Date: 12 Dec 05 - 04:45 AM a treehouse? |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 12 Dec 05 - 08:06 PM Last Monday was an evening of excellence at Ep'th Folk as they gathered for their third meeting of the winter session. And so it should have been with two professional singers in their midst. John Ohagan returned and George from Landlocked was there. We were somewhat depleted with enforced absences by some regulars but that only made it more memorable for the ones who were there, giving the singers a chance to show off the diversity of their repertoires. With only seven performers there, they each had a chance to show off the diversity of their songs with about six each. John Ohagan kept us fascinated with his diction and purity of voice with a nostalgic song he composed with Archie Fisher about the days of their youth, but song of the night for me was his "The Lark in the clear blue Air" this was unforgettable. George gave us some of his country favourites such as "I didn't tell her" "Somedays a diamond". His "Irene Goodnight" soon had the whole room singing. A splendid and varied selection . Chris Smithson was at his best again with his own compositions. His "Conservatory Rag" now a firm favourite at Ep'th Folk. A fine guitarist in many styles and an original composer who can find a song in any situation. The regulars too were in good voice with John Windle singing "Give me back my job again" and a hilarious "Iv'e read about love". Albert Deakin was in good voice with, "Your my best Friend" and " We can Sing". Eric's contribution was "Ae Fond Kiss" by Burns and "Linden Leigh" amongst others Making a late appearance through work we had Andrew Taylor who played "Candle in the Wind" and " Streets of London" Thanks were extended to Travelling Audience and the other listeners. |

Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Sooz Date: 14 Dec 05 - 06:56 AM Christmas party on 19th Eric? |
Subject: RE: Epworth Folk Club From: Ep' Eric Date: 14 Dec 05 - 04:21 PM We have nothing planned at the moment for the 19th. cos people haven't been accessable, so I don't know how many will be there. We have been up and down with numbers for the last three meetings. Great nights, but unpredictable for obvious reasons. I suppose I could arrange to have some butties laid on as in the past but there's trouble a't mill. The landlord and landlady ( she's not his wife) are splitting up so I don't know what the the situation will be, but I'll see. I'll keep you posted. |
