BTW the vagina is an internal organ and I don't see it rendered here. Usually a speculum is required to view the vagina. What is being depicted is the external female genitalia and peri-anal region. I know this sounds very pedantic but this is one of my bugaboos, people referring to the vagina when what they really mean is the vulva or external genitalia.

well, years ago a woman gave me a copy of something by Betty Dodson which made the distinction bobad refers to QUITE clear....Betty is in her 70s now, and still promoting 'genital' art, though the border between art and....otherwise...gets a bit fuzzy.

Both male and female genitalia have been the subjects and/or sources of design in all kinds of media from prehistoric times to the present. Sometimes the genitalia are suggested, but are not explicit, as in the works of Georgia O'Keefe, whose works draw fascinated stares and remarks such as "Is that what I think it is?" Judy Chicago's sculptured plates in her masterpiece, The Dinner Party, draw the same stares but no question. It's rather obvious that they are all pussies. And as for the Empress of Self-Love, Betty Dodson, her artwork is all very explicit, very hairy, and very inviting. Like Suzie Bright, Betty calls herself a "pro-sex feminist," for which she has gotten grief from the mainstream feminists and from the anti-feminists alike.

Among the great pussy artists are some guys, including Man Ray and Cesare Peverelli, although both are better known for their other works.
