This is one of those festivals really worth planning for and making the trip. I play a lot of them and this my favorite. Great venue, great people to work for, great music/dance focused events and lots and lots of really fine music!

Here's the headliner list for this year. The featured acts are here.

All stages are indoors, so weather be damned the show will go on. If you make the festival, please, please stop by and say hello. The schedule is yet to be posted - but I've been asked to one show Friday night, two Sat and one Sun. I'll have a guest player or two - but can't say more about that yet.

I hope to see y'all in Dallas over March 3, 4 and 5, 2006.

True, this festival is a lot of fun, and I have flown down from CT for it, particularly since it is at the time of my sister-in-law's birthday, and I introduced them to Irish and Scottish music.

Jeri - top of the list would be nice, but I am honored just to be on this list. It's not THAT far a drive ... 3 days - maybe even 2 very long days driving ... not too bad.

Celtaddict - you should plan to fly down again this year!

I must agree that this is one not to be missed. I was there a couple of years ago and had a great time. Besides, I got to see a Mudcatter or two - one of whom was Mimosa, a great vocalist and fine harpist.

Our weekends have been miserable lately. Lets hope for a warm sunny one for this festival. (It rained all last weekend, and the weekend before that my poor daffodils got covered with a coat of freezing rain!)

Events started last evening. I didn't see Broaders yet, Mick, but I'll will. They're on my stage for both their sets today. I did one show last night. I have two on Sat (3 and 5) and one on Sun (3). I am playing a few form the upcoming Civil War album, since the festival theme is the Heirs of Erin .. a focus on the Irish immigrant experience.

I visited with my friend Beth Patterson last night, who played right after I did and I said hello to and chatted with nosluap57 (and date) in the hotel before the festival started.

The weekend should be a blast!

... great day. Enjoyed Robbie O'Connell & Aoife Clancy, bohola, Eileen Ivers and Ed Miller - aslo caught a bit of the Makem Brothers. Had good crowds for both my sets and sold lots of CDs ... one more day, and only one set on Sun. Have enjoyed my guest players, Jeff Moore and my son Jaime.

I'll skip the sessions tonight, in lieu of some rest. Lick 'em tomorrow, though!

at the risk of speaking to myself aloud in public .... I thought I'd close it with a quick report:

I'm home. Events are all over with. Record crowds (probably hit 50,000). Lovely weather, very fine music.

I got a god visit with Pat Broaders, Mick - and truly enjoyed bohola's last set. Sometimes it's hard to believe there's only 3 of them! Those guys just KICK ASS! Pat and I talked about doing some work on my new recording project - I think we can work it out. We'll see.

CD sales were good this year. As Stonewall Jackson might, "God has been good to us today." It was a lovely weekend. I hope some of the Mudcatters who went will check out the thread ... otherwise, we'll try again next year.

It was a terrific festival. Heard one of Jed's sets but didn't get an opportunity to meet him - maybe next year. bohola played with such energy and punch -wow! John Williams was super so was Aoife, Robbie O'Connell and their group. Who was their singer and flute player, she was so talented. I wanted to buy one of her cd's but they had already left by the time we got to the cd table.
The session in the bar Sunday night was amazing with Eileen Ivers and many of the other performers playing. The house rocked!

Jed was great, as always. Sure do miss the opportunity to see hom more often (I live in MN). Enjoyed talking to him in the hotel lobby, and I hope he has a great year (no more cancelled festivals). I should have mentioned to him that the beautiful girl who he descibed as my "date" was my wife, which, I guess really was my date!

The weather was about the best I can recall - mid 70's both days. Got to see old friends, make a few new ones, have a couple of nice talks with a few musicians, and hear some tremendous music.

As Jed implied, the crowd set an attendance record. Guess we all get to do it again next year for the big twenty-fifth annual. I am hearing it is going to be an incredible lineup.

Well I joked about my lovely blue banjo that was loaned to me by Charlie's Guitar Shop - as we sat there in the lobby on Friday afternoon ... I went to return it today, and he told me I could keep it, since I had a use for it, since I enjoyed the instrument and since I wore his advertisment all weekend - he wanted me to have it!

What a deal.

I'll post some pics of the weekend, if they appear in the near future.

That's so totally cool about the blue banjo. I do recall seeing you in a Charlies sweatshirt all weekend. I thought maybe you packed too light, but now it makes sense.

I guess next year I'll look for a blue bodhran (Alfonzo????).

Jed, just because I haven't commented does not mean I am not interested; was not able to fly down this year.
But just going "Ooo, ooo, ooo" doesn't seem to add much.
So go right on talking to yourself online; who sang what? Did you identify the mystery musician yet(with Robbie and Aoife)?

Boo Hoo, don't think I din't want to go either but Jeri's broke so I couldn't get a lift aboard her flying machine, she couldn't afford the gas & I couldn't afford to split it with her. Truth is I've been following with intrest & also looking to hear about those 3 young(er), than me brothers & see how they're doing with the Teaxs heat & all. Thanks for the updates.
