Subject: RE: Happy new year From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 01 Jan 06 - 12:43 AM Happy New Year from a nasty hot humid day in Sydney, its nearly 4.30pm sunday here. The latest temperature listed on the Weather Bureau site was 42.2 Celcius at 3.53pm. For those not used to Celcius scale 38C =100F, so it's bloody hot here. When I woke at 9.15 I immediately watered the plants on my windowsills & drew all curtains & haven't poked my nose out all day. The nearest I got to the weather was around 2pm when the clothes dryer stopped & I closed the bathroom window & my nose & hands noted it was very hot outside. My place is relatively cool as I have 2 fans, one permenently in the living room where I am, the other moves between bedroom & kitchen & bathroom. When I brought the dry clothes from the bathroom to bedroom to fold them I really noticed the heat & needed to wipe my face. In a few hours I'll open the blinds when the heat & glare subside, & I might go for a walk after 8pm as I did last night. I just heard my neighbour's door open, I wonder if he is braving the heat, or returning from Outside. No doubt the beaches & pools are full of folks geting burned & wet. Last night I went for a walk & saw the 9pm fireworks on the Harbour. I normally avoid activity on New Year's eve as my suburb is Sydney's entertainment area & full of drunks & yahoos & noise. It was very pretty, and there were lots of ooohs & ahhhhs & even applause. 3hrs later it was different noise but I was safely inside reading & eventually the noise stopped. sandra |
