Jez was magic by all accounts. A cozy forum with lots of different playing techniques to watch. Good songs and time to chat to folk. He even remembered meeting my friend's cousin in a gig in Canada and talking to him in a similar setting! That's amazing considering the hundreds of people he meets on tours. It was genuine too as he accurately described him and his work.Impressed.

Hi Ross the date that was for The Hertfordshire Day of Song was March 4th. so it would be too late for The Unicorn, but via word of mouth ie (Breezie) we should get a few people there, or wait until April. Bye I am off to Devizes The home of 6XXXXXX, then tomorrow Port Issac until Tuesday, so should be at The Blue Anchor Tuesday, The Bull on Wednesday and then staying at The Lower Red Lion, The Rose and Crown on Thursday. Cool. Then as if that was not enough, Robinhoods Bay on Friday and Saturday back on Sunday. BYE BYE.

So it is true JB - save me a sandwich box with combination drinking cup - I love tupperware - plastic is delicious

Polly is Silverfish's new true love

Will we see them both at the Blue Anchor next Tuesday

Clashing with Breezy on Sunday is Norma Waterson and Martin McCarthy at the Hitchin Folk Club at the Sun Hotel

What a fight - who will win?

Hopefully, I will start a February thread Monday

Cool cat wants to know what all you folkies write in those little books during sessions

I went to the Ukranian club last night - they're now going to close it - very interesting - lots of blokes with guitars - lush ladies getting high on alcoholic jelly cubes - and a Ukranian barman

Cheers for the lift Bertie

Cheers Piers & TH

We had a grand night last night - a few absent with coughs & colds

Many thanks to Bert, Pat, Cathy, Philip, Trevor W, Geoff, Davina, Nat, Lorna, Tony, Richard, Keith, Eve, Bob & Teresa (running the bar)

Great News - we are now permanently based in the Function Room, with plenty of heat and the integral bar open - Bob the landlord has given us a pledge to support us

No more bar noise or people walking through the session to the loo -it's also a non smoking room

I hope that gives a better future for the sessions

I'm going down the Ukranian Club in Luton tonight - perhaps I'll meet Olga

FRIDAY 27th JANUARY – LAUGHING GRAVY

North Hertfordshire's favourite Dance Band LAUGHING GRAVY return after their Christmas break, re-vitalised and refreshed, to offer the very best of English acoustic dance music to the renowned Unicorn Ceilidhs.    Based on years of experience, the band's style is firmly rooted in the English tradition, but draws its influences from far and wide. French, Scottish, Welsh and American roots are explored in an eclectic repertoire that gives energy to the dancers, and leads them into the figures and forms of the dances.

Caller for the evening is the delightful and experienced SHEENA MASSON.
From an early age Sheena has built an enviable reputation as both a versatile dance musician and ceilidh caller. She works extensively with, among others, bands Peeping Tom and Stömp. She is also a member of the new eclectic dance band Stocai, and is a popular and versatile caller at festivals and clubs throughout the country.

Our interval entertainment this month comes from the STONY STEPPERS – they will be demonstrating the very English tradition of Clog Step Dancing, whilst you relax, drink a pint or two, and recover your breath!
Doors open at 7.30   Dancing from 8.00 till late. Real Ale Bar.
Tickets £7.50 (U14s £4)

They look forward to seeing you all!

From the Unicorn Ceilidhs Team
(01582 733113 / 724261)

The Valley , Anguilla's capital and one-and-only town gets more interesting every season. New shops have opened in new buildings and renovated West Indian-style cottages. Old shops have been modernised and have enlarged their stocks as well as their space.

I watched the Who at the Valley in 1975 - it was pretty run down then

I wonder if they know some remote island named their capital after them

I suppose we'll attempt to be a bit Scottish on Thursday - I don't know if we're up to piping in a haggis & wearing kilts

It's also Australia day on the 26th - I know, because someone fibbed at the last session & we were subjected to hours of transportation songs

Did you know Australia has Pink pages instead of yellow for their phone numbers
